Just got Lightroom 6, And I watching various videos. I really learn better from a book or PDF.

Some books reference 'CC' in the title, I have the DVD.

Which do you recommend?

Adobe Photoshop CS6 for Photographers: A professional image editor's guide to the creative use of Photoshop for the Macintosh and PC
by Martin Evening (Paperback)

OR

The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter)
by Scott Kelby (Paperback)

Thanks!

Scott Kelby, for two reasons here: One, PCC introduced a new approach to updating and upgrading this software; and two, PCC came with a new filter: Camera Shake Reduction. This filter removes the slight image blur induced by camera operation. A natural image sharpness results from its use.

Now, PCC also has a Dehaze filter (available in Adobe Camera Raw). It backs off airborne haze and some glare in a photograph, producing more saturation and contrast, for a pleasing effect.

I could go on. But get the Kelby book for its covering the new features in PCC.

Thanks for the reply. PCC is the cloud version of Lightroom?
I bought the DVD version. Are there differences?

PCC differs from Lightroom. They both now arrive via an Internet download. I have no knowledge of a DVD version of either program.

Adobe offers both PCC and Lightroom as a package deal together for a rental fee of $9.99 per month, last time I looked. This fee includes automatic program updates and upgrades.

There are always different opinions I suppose so why not share my $0.02 worth. I am one that can't read Kelby stuff. My time is as valuable as any ones so when I need to waste some of it while he practices trying to be funny is a wee bit annoying for me. Again just one persons thoughts. If you can digest what your trying to learn with the slap stick BS tossed into the mix I envy you. I'm not sure what is available but if you can find some samples of each authors style it may be worth doing that. We all learn a little differently and some instructors hit home runs with us and other's don't simply because of their teaching style.

While I have books by both authors that I like a lot, I'll tell you that Martin's writing will take you into the "why" of things moreso than Scott's.

Right, Scott Kelby shows the reader how to do something, minus a lot of discussion and fluff. His approach has made him the most published author of photography writings. I've found some of his instructions very helpful for improving my photographs and my processing technique.

Of the two books you listed, I would go with the Scott Kelby book for the simple expedient that it actually teaches Lightroom. The Martin Evening book is on Photoshop CS6. Photoshop and Lightroom are not the same software, they don't operate similarly and their tutorials are not interchangeable.

Evenings book is better, but it isn't going to help you much with lightroom. It's intended for photoshop users.

There are several books devoted to Lightroom alone. I have Kelby's, and it's OK, but not as easy to follow as some of his earlier stuff.

My experience with Kelby's books is that they go through features and tell you how to use them. Martin Evening's books also tell you how to use the features, but seem to me to go into more detail about when to use them and what some of the options are for using other features for the same output. So Kelby's books for how-to, and Evening's for more discussion about how-to coupled with when-to.

It's been a bit difficult to follow the dialog. It's actually called Adobe Creative Cloud. If one subscribes to the Creative Cloud, they can get access to any of Adobe's graphic tools.

To differentiate between Adobe's tools prior to the CC (Creative Cloud) and those that are part of it, typically the photographer's tools (Lightroom, Photoshop and Bridge) are referred to as LRCC, PSCC and BRCC.

LRCC has a couple of things that LR6 (the one that comes on the DVD) doesn't have, but should get at the next update. For example the dehaze tool is now part of ACR (Adobe Camera Raw, the primary editing engine in LR) and included in LRCC and the ACR filter in PSCC. I'm not sure if LR6 has it yet. But, for 99.9% of it, LRCC and LR6 are identical.

The Martin Evening book you mention above is for Photoshop, but it covers the ACR filter in detail, and any knowledge gained in that reading can be applied to LR.

Thanks for the comments.
Are these books on two DIFFERENT products? I thought they were BOTH on Lightroom. All I've got now.

Thanks for the comments. They really help a lot. I just have LR6, and I want to concentrate on it. So the Photoshop book will not be useful to me at this time.
