The FBI has just announced it was able to access the I-phone 5C that was in possession of the San Bernardino, CA killers. Apple refused to help the FBI. What info that has been accessed is unknown at this time.

My question is why did they tell us and terrorists that they cracked the code?

The less information they disclose the better.

Well, the Israelis didn't do it on their own. They obviously were asked to. Good work. Apple could have done something without compromising all iphones...I'm mean after all they're are all "geniuses."

There are 13 USA police departments that have these I-phones, whereas they want access to these phones. Drug dealers and criminals. They requested to the FBI to crack the code for them, once they discovered FBI requested Apple's help. I think this will secretly be done for them now.

But that's not what the FBI wanted; they wanted Apple at the company's expense to develop software that would get around the security and then give the program to the FBI. That would allow the FBI to crack any phone, at any time, with or without a search warrant leaving Apple open to fend off any lawsuits.

Had the Bureau given the phone to Apple and asked them to extract the information for the FBI and then give the info and the phone back to the FBI, perhaps Apple would have been more cooperative. I think Apple was correct in their position that the software would have been leaked within 48 hours leaving all phones open to hacking and thus refusing to do it.

Actually no. The court order specifically demanded a tool that would open all iPhone 5's. The FBI had 12 other phones, NY City had over 120 phones, city of Sacramento had over a hundred. By the time every police force in the US got it's request in, there would have been thousands of copies of the software. Somebody would have sold it to ISIS, every major Chinese manufacturing company would have bought a copy, the list goes on and on. Apple was doing what was best for the United States. Congress initially lined up with the FBI but even conservative congressmen are beginning to agree the court order would have harmed the US.

I can imagine the results if the allies during WW2 had told the Germans we cracked their Enigma machine. We might all be speaking German.

IF the original reporting is correct, maybe they found something that led them to try to provoke action by others in the cell. There seems to be evidence that the terrorists will rush their plans rather than hide in the shadows. I suspect it is hard to keep potential suicide bombers motivated for long periods.

Great! Apple can go fly a kite! Of course they'll not make that stuff public because the bad guys will hear it too.
