Well yesterday, Amazon told me no delivery by today. Today they send me this,
Delivery estimate:May 2, 2012 - May 3, 2012.
We will see...
How many of you have received yours?

My local store only has 8 people left on their D800 pre-order list as of this morning, then any bodies they receive will go on the shelf. They have been getting 4-8 bodies a week. No D800E's yet though, dammit!
Maybe I should have ordered it from your local store.
Didn't you wait a while to order?
I thought you were on the fence.
BTW how is the 800mm?

I was on the fence. But after I got the 800mm I realized what I was missing and it just begged for more megapixels. Lowered the price on the truck I had for sale and sold it, got on the D800E list that day in fifth position.
I am keeping the D7000 as I think it will be the perfect DX companion for the D800E, plus I get the focal length advantage of the DX sensor to give me more choices with my lens collection.
I agree the D7000 is a keeper. As you know I almost dumped mine, but that would have been a mistake. I have been shooting it a lot lately.
I sure hope the D800 is as good as a D7000.
Saw a D800 sell on eBay for $3600, not that high as sales tax in Chicago is 9.5% the highest in the country. That makes a locally purchased D800 very close to $3300.

One of the nice things about Montana, no sales tax here.
Suddenly Chicago Craigslist has several D800s listed. One person offers to trade a D800 for a D700 plus $2000.

Looks like at least SOME people there are detting theirs!
Holy crap MT. No sales tax? I get stuck with our so called harmonized sales tax of 13%

Yes, and we were thee only state with a budget surplus each of the last 5 years. Now what does that tell you about out income tax and property tax rates?
Tells me your a lucky man.
Oh! Still waiting for my camera up here also. Brian
Just got an email from Amazon.
Shipment Date: May 1, 2012
Destination: CHICAGO, IL, US
Estimated Arrival: May 2, 2012
I will have it tomorrow. One day shipping was $3 as a Prime member.
They use a weird private delivery system for 1 day. The service uses old plain cars and people who look out of work. I have even got Amazon 1 day on Sunday evening.
Perhaps it is Amazon Stealth Delivery System.
Now I will have both high mega-pixel formats. The D800 of course and the Sinar P 8x10 I got this morning.
It will be interesting to see which I prefer in a year from now!
D800 just delivered. Nikon box good condition. UPS box half open. lousy packing.
At the same time a 'used' camera from Adorama packed like a baby. The used camera is obviously brand new with 2 tiny scratches. A very good deal.
More later.

Glad you finally got it! Have you read all of that downloaded manual yet?
I read the manual a month a month ago. Most likely forgot most of it. But the menu system is pure Nikon. I shot a D700 for years and lately a D7000. It is all the same plus better video.
The HDMI live output is something to behold on a good monitor.
This will be a hit with people with big screen TV's. I don't have a big screen. I watch TV on my second 23" computer monitor while surfing the net. Almost 7pm, time for Prime time free OTA TV. I will not pay for cable or an iPhone.
I am going to set this up as a studio still and video camera on a dolly with a 23" monitor for tethered shooting. Do some documentary video interviews.
I am very happy with the camera feel, the sturdy build, the light weight. Everything feels solid and tight. The lens mounts with a click that seems tighter than my past Nikon. The auto-focus feels as powerful and snappy as an F5. The shutter click is decisive. The only complaint is as Ken Rockwell said, 'where are the D7000 U1 and U2 settings'. Those are handy features.
To show into LF I am, I unpacked the Adorama used Horseman LXC first. Also a great camera, but not the LXC I was sold, but a lesser model LX. I will deal with Adorama tomorrow.
