So now, one has to wonder, is this for real? I guess time will tell. Meanwhile, smart-phone photography just keeps getting better and better. But deep in my heart, I know my Canon 5D MK III was a good purchase that I will never regret (nor let go of).

I'll believe it when I see it happen.

Well, sometimes people are very busy and just glance. I actually thought people would realize that both Canon and Nikon have been releasing (and in the process) of releasing new cameras--therefor, not true. 😊
Had me for a minute

It is the poor carpenter that blames his tools.
Neither Canon or Nikon will actually say it, but a good photographer with a keen eye can get great photos from entry level cameras while mediocre photographers will get mediocre results from the best cameras that money will buy.

Ha ha. You just couldn't help yourself, Cliff. Indeed, the biggest factor is the photographer, a principle you espouse with fervor. On the other hand, I have had assignments in which my 1DX and top L lenses got me through, when the lesser equipment I previously had would have failed.
I'd like to see Canon push mirrorless technology to replace the DSLR. The weight of those monsters makes it less likely for people to lug them about when not being paid to do so. I also need to improve my own skills, the most crucial among them being marketing. Cheers.
Camera development will continue until the ultimate of ultimate cameras is perfected. And what is this ultimate camera. Well you hold it in your hat, which has 8 to 10 probes that press against your head and enables camera-brain direct communication. You think 'compose' and thr camera conveys exactly what it sees, warts and all - the little scene lines and the 1/3 thirds line appear in your minds eye. You think 'less depth of scale' and the camera asjusts to suit your thought taste. You think 'a bit faster shutter' to show more moving water texture and lo, the camera again adjusts. Then when the light and shadows are just right you think 'shoot' and it happens. PP ? Well, you think 'fix white balance' and in a flash it is fixed. As the camera has nearly as many deep pixels as your brain has neurons your image will be gallery ready and ready to receive unbounded acclaim. You think 'publisher name and URL' and in a flash your masterpiece is sent.
Alas, we ain't there yet. Sigh.
