I'm sorry rook, I don't get any of those feelings you were aiming for. This image doesn't say 'cold' to me, and it certainly doesn't say 'hostile'. I guess any picture of a place without people in it could be said to be lonely. The fading light just says to me "Time to make camp." I think the trees are too close to give a feeling of being lost, I don't get a 'lost' feeling. I can see that the angle that you pointed your camera was intended to make the trees look somehow menacing. But they really are too spindly to be very threatening. I really don't think there is anything you could do at this location to get the reaction you were hoping for.

I guess this image just doesn't have the same effect on others than it does on me. Perhaps it has something to do with personal experiences, I'm not sure. For others, this apparently represents nothing more than a meaningless grouping of trees. Yet to me, it's one of the most profound images I've done in decades, and far superior to all other images I've posted here on UHH.
