I keep getting pop up ads from 42nd St. Photo that provides the great prices for the Sony a7Rmk2 and the Fe lenses. They are all gray market, w/o U.S. warranty. Has anyone made the purchase and if so did the camera or lenses come as new and in excellent working order. Zing

If you want to get scammed by the best, give them a shout.

Hint: the ONLY thing that keeps them in business is people who don't care about the equipment, people that are buying a gift for someone else and don't understand grey market or the lack of support or people that don't do a lot of photography and just want a "expensive", "impressive" or just a camera and don't have the knowledge or experience to know what to look for in a dealer. As P.T. Barnum once said, "There's a sucker born every minute." and that is what 42nd St. Photo is looking for.

Personally, I'd never buy anything from them. A friend of mine purchased a Canon 7D from them a few years ago and they sent him a used camera body and the sensor was dirty.

You must have missed travisdeland's post a little earlier. There was a person who is happy with their experience.

gray market devices and lenses should be avoided at all costs. if anything goes wrong, even Canon and Nikon, in Japan, will not repair them if they were purchased in the United States.
go with United States correctly imported equipment, you will never regret it.

As an aside -- I have not payed much attention to the term "grey market" before getting involved in photography. I just looked up the term and realize that it is not unique to just photography, but in fact can involve items anywhere from smart phones to blue jeans.

"A grey market (sometimes called a parallel market, but this can also mean other things; not to be confused with a black market or a grey economy) is the trade of a commodity through distribution channels that are legal but unintended by the original manufacturer. The most common type of grey market is the sale, by individuals or small companies not authorised by the manufacturer, of imported goods which would otherwise be either more expensive or unavailable in the country to which they are being imported. An example of this would be the import and subsequent re-sale of Apple products by unlicensed intermediaries in countries such as South Korea where Apple does not currently operate retail outlets and licensed reseller markups are high."

Now when focusing (no pun intended) mostly on photography equipment, this B&H explanation is quite good:

I just purchased the Nikon d810 when I found out I was buying a gray market camera I went to cancel I quickly found out it would cost me 20% to cancel at the time the camera was on its way to me that's almost $500.00 just to cancel order so needless to say I am stuck with this gray market camera . The box was opened when order arrived not everything that normally is in the box was there I feel robbed and will never ever buy anything from these thieves again and plan to post this statement on the BB website .

I've stayed away from purchasing from this place based on reviews. However, I made a purchase of a Zeiss product through Amazon a while back. After I started having problems with it, I researched my purchase trying to figure out the best way to get it repaired. To my dismay, I discovered that it came from 42nd St. Photo. I sent the product in to Zeiss with an explanation and a request for an estimated cost to repair it. Zeiss really came through for me. Instead of getting an estimated price to repair, I received a brand new replacement with no charge.
