I like the mood of this shot. Personally, I would crop out the door frame on the left. My guess is that this was shot at a slow shutter speed and thus the blurred image due to camera movement. Depending on your equipment, you might want to crank up the ISO, use a wide aperture, and, if possible, an image stabilized lens in this type of low light scenario.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm looking at everything that might influence the sharpness.

Two things have been said about this picture, the softness and the door, I don't object to either of those things in this instance. The softness is entirely suited to the subject matter, particularly with the warm lighting. The door puts you in the position of the observer looking in from the street.
Perhaps having the face in profile would give more emotion.

Graham Smith and Apaflo, Thanks, guys. Since I was out of sight and behind things, I probably should have stuck around and played with the focus, and waited to see if he changed to a better profile.
