A blog I follow - PhotoApps.Expert - included a very detailed PDF guide by Linnie Rourke for moving photos from Aperture to Lightroom CC/6. This seems to be a frequent topic on this page and I thought I should make it available to those that are interested.

NOTE: I have not actually followed the instructions but have read it and intend to make the "move" this weekend.

To my way of thinking, this is the most detailed procedure for making the move from Aperture to LR I have seen. Hope this helps those that are still contemplating the move.

The PDF can be found at http://photoapps.expert/tips/2016/3/16/using-aperture-exporter-move-library-aperture-lightroom-cc6#.VurnthjjmtM

I tried to dl it on an iPad ISO 9.2.1 but was not successful; worked as expected on OS X El Cap.

I did try Aperture Exporter when I was moving to LR 6 months ago, but for my purposes it did not prove worth the effort. That said, it does what it's designed to do.

Essentially, AE culls through your Aperture library and generates JPG or TIF files based on the (non-destructive) edits you made in Aperture. So, if you have 10 raw images, and have cropped them all plus created a second version of one of them to be B&W (just as a simplistic example) what AE does is create 11 output files as well as duplicates the original raw files. SO one thing to recognize is you need to have plenty of disk space.

In my case, since I don't do all that much PP and what I did do is easily replicable in LR, the duplication of everything was not worth it. I ended up scrapping my AE output and just did the import to LR from the menu selection that Adobe so thoughtfully provided.

Be aware that in this circumstance the Aperture library came across as one Collection Set in LR, with all the library folders etc. appearing under that one LR collection set. If you create a new Collection in LR, it will appear as something separate from the Aperture stuff, which may or may not be of importance to you depending on how you organized things in Aperture.
