Maybe a slightly morbid subject but when you go, what sort of send off would you want? I havbe no intention of dying just yet but I could be run over by a truck tomorrow, in which case personally I would want "direct cremation".

I'm good with my ashes in a shoe box and dumped somewhere. I'll be dead (hopefully prior to that)so what do I care what happens to my carcass?

Funerals are really not for the dead...funerals are for the living. Those who are close to you need some kind of closure and an opportunity to grieve....and perhaps in the process receive some degree of comfort from others. Or it may be that you have no family or friends that will grieve your passing.....then the gathering can take on a more celebratory air.

Sky, you are sooo correct !

When I go, it will be the absolutely cheapest way... No services; no prayers (again for the living and I'm not going to hear a freeging word: no nuttin'.....

I don't want mourners at my funeral that would be a totally solitary affair with me being the only one present. I have made provision in my Will by leaving a sum of money to some friends with the instructions that they should spend it by throwing one helluva party to prove that the miserable old sod who just died wasn't as miserable as they thought!

I like the way Andy Griffith went. He was buried on his own property within 24 hours without being embalmed.

I attended a funeral in Medicine Lodge Kansas. The guy that died had us meet at the bar. He had paid for all the beer in advance. When we went to the Grave site, they passed around a bottle of whiskey that he had bought.
What a way to go.

The most economical way to the environment. Cardboard casket and a loin cloth O.K. by me.

Black for ladies (only because they look good in it) but jeans are O.K. for everyone else.

A few minutes of Barber's 'Adagio for strings' then ACDC Highway to Hell followed by Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven (that should cover all the bases).

A decent tab behind the bar for a pub lunch and drinks and an overnight for those who've traveled far or a taxi for those nearer so as a decent drink can be had by all.

I'd be happy looking down on that.

As far as the loin cloth goes....I don't think funeral homes put pants on guys anyway since the only part that is seen is the upper half.

I have a much better idea. Donate your body to a Medical College. I think every state has at least one, usually at a major university.

After they are done working on your body, they cremate it and send the ashes to whomever you choose. Or, dispose of the ashes if no one wants them.

The cost is ZERO to you, and they will usually pick your body up anywhere within the state where you reside. I also suspect that medical schools are connected and if you die out-of-state the Med School of that state is notified - not sure but it makes sense.

FYI: The numbers to call in Florida are: 800-628-2594 (Gainesville; 305-243-6691 (Miami); and, 407-266-1142 (Orlando).

If you want more details, P.M. me.

I have chosen to donate my body to the University of Florida School of Medicine for whatever purposes they see fit. Once they have "finished with me" they will cremate the remains.

I hope I can be of some value to another human being.

Excellent idea to donate your body. When my daughter was a medical student she had the opportunity to examine a donated body. She learned a great deal and appreciated the thoughtfulness of the donor/family.

There will be no funerals for my wife and me. Simple cremation and many prayers.
