Hi all,
I have purchased a Nikkor lens 24-120 f/4 ED VR.
I purchased it through Kogan for half the price of what I could get it in the shops in Australia ( $789 ).
What do people think about this lens ?
It seems to take good photos, but is there any way of knowing if this lens is functioning good as it should be? I'm a bit concerned as it was so cheep.

Do you have any reason to believe it isn't working as it should? I am not familiar with Kogan.

Probably the best time to have asked those questions was before you bought the lens.

Its very likely that the reason it was so inexpensive compared to other retailers is that its gray market.

The 24-120 f4 is a versatile lens although optically average.
If the images look good to you don't fret and just enjoy it.

Take a picture, make sure it is focus. Have a section enlarged, if you like it fine, if not, return it.

Available on the internet are lens focus PDF's. Print one out, attach it to a wall, mount the camera on a tripod, take a picture or two and then examine the results.

FWIW, its my walking around lens.

There's no reason to pay full price for a lens if you can get it from a reputable dealer (person). I recently purchased two lenses used and saved quite a reasonable amount of money. One of the lenses had only been used about 3 times and I know the owner so I bought it. Like others here said, if you're satisfied/happy with the quality of the photos then the lens is perfectly fine. Relax a little and enjoy what you're doing. Look at it this way too: if something happened to the lens, you can always replace it with a full priced one if that makes you feel better. Money in your pocket is best. Good luck.

I have thought many times about getting the 24-120 f4, but I have held back because I already have the earlier 24-120 vr f3.5-?. I love the range for a walk around. Your model is a better design than mine, but knowing how to use either one is what's important. If your asking this question, you are probably using a lens that will provide you everything you need at this point in your development as a photographer. I haven't upgraded to the 24-120 f4 because I also have the 24-85 vr which is just as sharp as yours but not as long. I also have better pro lenses when I need them, but they get heavy for walking around on days with nice light. Don't get caught in the GAS game and buy wisely and only when you need to. I have too much equipment and will be listing some of it sometime in the future. To further answer your question, without knowing what the Aussie exchange rate is, I couldn't know if you got a good deal. In the states, I've seen your lens as a refurb going for about as low as $570 US version. Hope this helps. LEon
