Read the latest from Thomas Dowell on the primaries. Are we screwed or what?
I found this an interesting article, and--for me--that's saying something.
Author was informed and logical about Trump, and I generally agreed with his conclusions.
He was not logical and informed about Hillary; he didn't examine her as he did Trump.
We know he would't accept Hillary--that's no surprise--but he failed to follow the logic and evaluation he leveled at Trump.
He missed a good opportunity for dispassionate journalism there.
The Republicans presented (if I remember correctly) 17 candidates. The field is now winnowed down to three--two of which are absolutely impossible!
Kasich is the only candidate one could take seriously, and he's barely hanging in there, though his numbers are improving. His program will not be acceptable to many democrats.
The Dems are about to nominate Hillary, who is not acceptable to many republicans, though some leaders allow they may vote for Hillary in protest against Trump.
We'll see.
I can't see any new candidates on the scene. There is the possibility of republicans inserting a new candidate into a brokered convention, but that could (would?) cause chaos and wild disagreement. Trump supporters would probably sit out the election, giving the victory to Hillary.
Cruz is more dangerous than Trump (which is saying something) and doesn't stand of chance of being President, in my opinion.
So, it appears we are down to Trump vs. Clinton in November.
Each voter will mark a ballot and watch.
One candidate will march to oblivion, and the other to inauguration.
Watching your candidate lose will be a wrenching experience for either party, but it is necessary to witness the loss, pick up the pieces and move on.
Either way, the Republican Party will reform into something new and different, and some will sit out some elections until they are reconciled to the new party.
Republicans will be forced to solicit black votes, Hispanic votes and women's votes, competing with democrats.
Seeking the same votes will reduce confrontation and division, and probably will result in stability and a certain amount of calm.
What a new experience That might be!
Tis a consummation devoutly to be wished.
