Tony,

The Rose would have been okay except for the lighting; there is too muck direct light on the left side and on the ground clutter. This all detracts from the Rose. Next time use a cloth sun filter to filter and cause the light be diffused and a lot softer. The composition (placement in the frame is okay, but with the lighting modifications I would place the Rose flower in the left 1/3 of the frame.

The blue flowers are rather stark against the black background, and they appear to be under exposed. You tried to use three flower stems and the flowers for all the stems, this tries to divide the frame into three parts. This type of picture may have looked better as a vertical with one stem and the flower occupying almost all the frame.

The yellow flower is wholly unacceptable and cannot be repaired. The flower is under-exposed to the point it looks muddy. The flower in itÂ’s entirety is way out of focus, the only part of this picture near focus is the gray background. The lighting appears to be softer, but the shadows on the background are hard and sharply defined. I suspect your camera auto=focus picked a point in the Felt material to focus on, you may need to set the camera up for single center spot focus and use an aperture value small enough to provide a few inches of depth of field on the flower. Placing the flower farther away from the Felt background will change the sharpness of the shadows, add depth between the flower and background, and allow you to use a reflector to fill in the shadows with softer light, but still retain the effect of the shadows.
