It seems MOST Hog-owners LOVE their Canon 'SX50 HS'; ...Sooo, WHAT would it take to bring the Nikon P900 (or for THAT matter, Canon's own 'SX60 HS' [since I'd prefer the 21mm WA]), up to at LEAST the IQ (or better) of the 'SX50 HS'? ? ?

Nikon did better them (spec wise) with the Nikon Coolpix B700. Not yet available except for pre-order. Well have to wait a bit more before images start hitting the web to get comparisons however dpreview reports its image quality to be outstanding.

If you are serious about image quality, I would not consider the Canon SX60. I love mine but my SX50 has much better image quality. The SX60 does go wider, has a better LCD screen/viewfinder and feels a little better in my hands than the SX50 but the image quality is lacking.

I would stick with the Nikon P900. Super zooms take a lot of practice to learn how to bring out the best in them.

Love of the owners of the Canon SX50 does not mean that the Nikon P900 does have worse IQ. Actually it seems to me that the P900 has better IQ than the SX50. Both those cameras are using very small sensor and that fact makes it impossible to get very good IQ from both of them. So I would recommend that people wanting very good IQ would not at all look for that in small sensor cameras. To get good IQ you need to look for a camera with 1" sensor or larger, at least something with a lot bigger sensor than the Canon SX50-60 or Nikon P900.

Hi James... THANKS for the 'B700' tip. --- Are you aware of a Super-Zoom bridge with a 1" (or larger) sensor?

Depends on the definition of super zoom.
I think the Panasonic FZ1000 is a one inch sensor with a 24-500 zoom or about 20x. It's the same for the new nikon dl 24-500.
The smaller 1/2.3 sensor in the sx50 or sx60 or p900 is what helps to keep the lens smaller.

Hi C-C_W... THANKS for your Comment; the FZ1000 has the IQ ...however 20X doesn't quite 'reach' far enough. --- My ideal span would be that of the SX60HS, but with a 1" or greater sensor. --- I would EVEN go to a 18-1000 range (the WA IMO is Far More USEFUL in a 'bridge' [if you could ever FIND one for under a $1000.]) --- What have you SEEN or READ of the LUMIX FZ300???

I have an fz200, and like it for some uses.
The fz300 is still the same zoom, and smaller sensor. An 18-1000 equivalent zoom on a 1 inch would be quite a large item.

The Canon SX50 is a fine camera, however it is no longer in production. You have to purchase it either used or refurbished. The successor to that camera is the SX60, a 65X and the Nikon P900 is an 83X. I saw a You Tube video comparing the SX50 vs the SX60, and I saw not much difference between the two through my eyes.

Hi C-C_W... THANKS; I wonder if ANY of the 'sensor-manufacturers' read these Forums and Blogs??

There's a few, Sony has the RX10 with gets good reviews. But it only has 200mm of zoom. You wont find a super zoom range on a 1" sensored camera. You must keep in mind....a so called 1" sensor is not even close to being 1", they are roughly 13.2mm x 8.8mm which in good old American measure is .52" x .35" (that's still pretty small).
