John Kasich

For several years I have enjoyed friendship with many folks. Many are "left leaning". Their support for the Democrat party over the past 7 years has waned evidenced by their most recent opinions regarding the current presidential race. All of my "left leaning" friends are embracing John Kasich as their preferred candidate. The point is pretty clear: of all the current contenders, only John Kasich is considered the best choice within my circle of friends and acquaintances regardless if they are more liberal or more conservative than each other. Let's hope that he can secure the nomination and we'll finally get the leadership we desperately need.

From what I've seen, we don't get as much coverage here as you do, he does seem to be the only one addressing any issues. But I guess that will change for the presidential campaigning.
I'm not sure if I've got the wording right. I mean the big one.

I'll admit Kasich looks presidential but that's only because he's being compared with hyenas.

He does have the qualifications to be the president. But I do agree his qualifications may appear to be more glowing when compared to the others. So why isn't he in the lead?

Because people think politics is a reality T.V. show. Kasich is not entertaining enough to compete with sound bites and too logical to be appealing to people fears, prejudices or anger. Too many people don't want ideas, they want rhetoric that makes the feel better in the short term but that solves nothing.

Quite well stated Opus, he is by far the best from both the dem's and pub's, however he doesn't stand a chance since he may only win one state. Now if they go to a brokered convention, it just might be a different story.

Are you just saying that to cheer me up? I don't think they will pick anybody who was a candidate in the 2016 race, it would alienate too many people. I am thinking the either Paul Ryan or Nikki Haley would get the nod. Perhaps a dark horse candidate that we never even considered before this.

Pretty astute opinion. I am thinking like you that a dark horse may emerge out of the convention in July. Paul Ryan? Nikki Haley? A significant influence will be what happens with Hillary and her very probable legal challenges in the near term.

Yep, I was trying to cheer you up.

Chris Matthews called it after that last GOP "debate." Kasich will probably be Trump's VP. Trump said he wanted a VP with political experience.

That would greatly disappoint me. While I think Mathews is a intelligent guy I can't stand how he never lets anybody answer a question he asks before cutting them off with comments or another question. He is a bit of a narcissist and often shoots from the lip just to hear himself talk. If he is right about Kasich as Trumps VP I will lose respect for Kasich as he will do nothing but serve as a prop as Trump begins to take the country down the road to authoritarianism or God forbid, worse. If congress does the right thing, and I believe they would, Trump will end up being almost powerless as Republicans and Democrats work together to ensure he doesn't destroy the Republic. Either way Kasich will go from respect politician to late night punchline faster than you can say Trump bankruptcy.

I wish Chris would stop that because he has a good background in politics. He pointed out that Kasich was the one Trump has never picked on.

Ya know, tho you're a repub and I'm a Dem, we think alike. :)

Okay, that was just mean, LOL. I am a registered independent who votes third party more than anything. I voted Democratic in the past two Governors races in Michigan and you would have to live here to understand why. Working in the environmental field back when Snyder was elected what happened in Flint doesn't surprise me. Many good people at the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality quit rather than work under the changes his administration was putting in place. The company I worked for back then hired two of them. One of them beat me out for a job I wanted but in all fairness she was more qualified than me. When I was asked about her getting the job over me I said that I would have made the same decision. In any case I try to listen to what candidates say, read what they have said in the past and examine their records carefully and the choose who I will vote for. I do lean to the right on many issues but believe that both parties have failed the people they represent and believe we need a better informed electorate before things get better. I also believe that I can't make my point by lying, insulting or demeaning people. P. J O'Rourke once said: "Arguing, in the sense of attempting to convince others, has gone out of fashion with conservatives." Believe he is right but now it applies to both sides of the political spectrum. Kasich tried to win by discussing issues and talking about solutions, nobody cared. Sanders is not a socialist or a communist , but nobody over the age of 40 is listening. I don't think he is a realist but I respect him and the things he wants to do, I just don't think it is possible to pay for them.
