On 02/17/16 I initiated a derogatory post about 42nd St. Photo. Time and their customer service department have proved me wrong.

I’m wrong about 42nd St. Photo. After I started that post they contacted me and we made arrangements for them to ship the Nikkor 105 VR. Their price is very reasonable. The lens is a USA model with a 5 year warrantee. They sent it with expedited shipping and a free UV filter. Thanks to Jonathan at 42nd St. Photo for clearing this matter up. I’ll certainly will be in contact with them for the next piece of equipment I need.

It is my intention to clear up the negative post that I made and I apologize to 42nd St. Photo for misjudging them.

Only the uninitiated routinely praise the antics of 42nd and their ilk. You were lucky.

Since 42nd St. Photo is not an authorized Nikon dealer, and their price on this lens is $168 less than B&H and Adorama, it's probably "grey market".

I would tend to believe that as well. Authorized vs unauthorized tells a lot.

Exactly! I don't doubt that the OP will get a US warranty Nikon from them. They probably bought it at B&H or Adorama. It would be worth the difference in price to them to get some positive feedback for once.

That may be true, and it crossed my mind, however, you have to have the sales receipt for warranty work. How would they get that in his name? A sales receipt from 42nd St. wouldn't be valid, since they aren't an authorized dealer.

They are still a grey market outlet, so buyer beware. Glad your experience turned out positive.

There could be several answers to that. Maybe they are not going to actually send him a US warrantied product, even though they said they would. Something like "It's our store warranty, good here in the US". Maybe they sent a clerk to an authorized dealer with a hand full of cash and bought it in the OP's name. Hard to say until the OP gets the lens and knows for sure just what he has. Since they are not an authorized dealer I have no idea how they can be sending him a US warrantied Nikon. Given their track record, I have my suspicions. My guess is that the owners of 42nd St also own an authorized dealership someplace. It would be interesting to find out what the paperwork says when the OP gets it. I hope he will keep us informed.

Better you than me...I wouldn't touch them with 42 ft pole. Scam artists at their finest.

I'm glad you were able to resolve your issues with them. But it's going to take a lot of posts like yours to even start to repair the damage they've done to their own reputation.
