does not look like much in Cape Coral, but about 30 miles North is Bobcock Wildlife Area, you may want to google the area and see if it is worth the drive.

You could drive south to Sanibel Island. There is a large reserve there, JN "Ding" Darling.

Ding Darling, This is the place to go.. Closed on Fridays, and you can only see the birds at Low tide. Check the local tide charts http://dingdarlingsociety.org/tides and choose your time to visit. All the birds are in the mud flats feeding, ONLY at LOW TIDE, a great location. Also, get with a Local Bird club, check on line and they will give you the street addresses of the local Burrowing Owls, a Must if in Cape Carol.. I haven't photographed them in the last two years, so I no longer have their locations..

Thanks Martin! My sister lives in CC and knows some of the locations. I also have a "guide" for $25 for a couple of hours in the AM. I will get to the WMA. Thanks so much for taking the time to message me.

If you have time, visit the light house on Sanibel as well. The beach has some nice driftwood/bleached out trees and if the clouds are popping in the afternoon, makes for some Great landscapes and even family photos using the driftwood and clouds as props.

Not saying to be creative but... well I guess I am!

When I went from St Petersburg to Treasure Island, there were plenty of photo ops.

While my wife and friends looked at the tourest things, I kept finding all kinds of nature items. From bugs and salamanders to a Crain feeding on minnows right at a jetski rental store and much of that was while waiting for restaurant seats.

At Passa-grill one lady screamed as a snake slithered by. It's out there if you want to look for it.

Sirenia Vista Park in the NW Cape has great manatee viewing. At the very north edge of the Cape on Charlotte Harbor is the Charlotte Harbor Preserve State Park: North Cape Flats Trail. (go at low tide, early morning) Hard to find but worth it.

Also on Pine Island just past Matalacha is the Little Pine Island Trail, another part of the Charlotte Harbor Preserve. It has a couple miles of trails through salt marshes and wetlands.

Be prepared for mud and standing water on the trails in both places. We have had a lot of rain this winter.

When are you going to be in the Cape? I live here and would be happy to show you a few spots, including the best $4.50 breakfast you'll ever find.

Almost forgot...Rotary Park, right in the south Cape has some great wildlife on a short, easy trail through mangrove wetlands and oyster bars. Low tide is best. It is about 10 minutes from downtown on the way to Tarpon Point.
