I'm thinking about picking one up to test on my em1 (adapted of course).

Would it be any different than using older Nikkor lenses on my DSLR?

I don't know….

I have the Tokina 300mm f2.8 in the Sony A mount. It takes great pictures. I use it with a Sony A99 (full frame) and Sony A77ii (crop sensor).

It even works for stars at night. Most lenses flunk this test. But you would need ability to track.

I picked up a Canon EF mount Tokina AT-X SD 300mm F/2.8 on an Astro Buy-Sell site about three years ago. It is a MONSTER of a lens! The filter thread is 112mm and it is definitely NOT a handheld lens unless you're a member of the World Wrestling Federation!!

I've only used the lens for astrophotography. Image quality is reasonable; not great, not terrible. The field-of-view of the lens is almost perfect for:
Andromeda: https://goo.gl/photos/fhH64iHyiQCWnMuA9
The Pleiades: https://goo.gl/photos/kkdtk7Dokfgbbiyb8

A picture of the lens mounted in parallel with an 8" refractor is shown at:

Let me know if you're interested in getting rid of it.

Not at present. It is sort of a talking piece in my collection of various lenses, i.e.: it pretty much puts everything else to shame by its size and weight! The Sigma 150-500mm looks small by comparison...
