I heard this guy coming to the feeders, just had time to switch the mode from quiet to continuous high, they're not at the feeder very long, and got these shots. Thought I'd share. Have A Blessed Day !!!

All very nice. And a species of Woodpecker I don't seem to have in California. We have similar in a few ways looking Flickers!

Thank You lamiaceae. I have two different pairs at my feeders, but they're very elusive. I'm not familiar with Flickers though apparently we don't have them in my part of Arkansas

Flickers are types of Woodpeckers. Though behaviorally Flickers are very skittish. You rarely can get close or get a good look, I usually see them flying away. Where as CA "Woodpeckers" often will let you stand right under the limb they are on. It is kind of like the term similarities of Hawks to Falcons.

Thank You, I appreciate the information and the link. I googled Flickers after your post, they're beautiful birds. I incorrectly called the woodpecker in my post as a Red-Headed woodpecker when in fact it's a Red-Bellied woodpecker, my apologies. When you get your shots of the Flicker I'd love to see them posted. Thanks again.

If I ever get a photo myself of a Red-Shafted (W. US) Flicker I will definitely want everyone to know. They are usually like little rockets shooting from tree to tree. They don't stay in one place when disturbed like some other Woodpeckers.
