I stewed in my juices last night trying to figure out why the new Polemaster QHY camera would not connect to my laptop....so I abandoned all hopes of using it....thinking that I have a defective one. I did my usual set up routine and begin imaging M81.....using "Alignmaster" PHD reported a super dooper polar alignment so off I went. My subs were done at 2:30am...I was taking my Bias frames when it hit me.....crap, I never installed the QHY drivers.

So, tonight we will see. I think....I wonder what else I forgot?

Getting old is a _itch!

LMAO!

Yep, even though it goes against every strand of male DNA, sometimes a quick glance at the installation instructions can help....

Every night is a new night...
Better times tonight!

Clear Skies, Ed!

What read the instructions! That's a sign of weakness, and I'm afraid stupidity. For the record go on the QHY website and read the horrible instructions whoever converted From Chinese to English needs to be re-school

The Polemaster lived up to it's hype last night. Very easy to make the adjustments and follow the software on-screen instructions. I was able to get a polar alignment less than 1.2 arc sec from peak to peak.

The obvious advantages of the Polemaster is you know for a fact you have gotten the CP aligned.....and you can do it all from your laptop, no looking through the polarscope. With Alignmaster, you follow the instructions and hope you don't need to repeat it again, and again to get it right (but you can nail it)

I bought it...i will use it....but if I had a do-over........it's a toss up. Yea, I would probably spend the bucks and buy it.

I tried a 20 minute exposure (using CCD filter and added a Sii filter) - what a waste of time - but can't argue with the stars. Round!

I started at 7:30 and took 240 sec lights from 9:00 until 4:00am......took 50 darks, 50 bias, and I am taking flats now.

Long night just for another look at M81.

My plans now, shave, shower, and head to Church (for a nap) and coast the rest of the day in my lazy boy - plus processing some data. I have tonight left to image as rain and clouds are on their way for a few days.

Instructions??? That's just another man's opinion of what I should be doing. I have been really waiting to read your review of this item, as it looks intriguing. I almost even PMed you to inquire about it, hopefully all goes well. Glad to hear it was just operator error, as sending the unit back means having to wait till its either repaired, or their next shipment comes in.
