I've been trying dog portraiture lately. Trying to get these little guys to smile has been fruitless. My wife suggested I try photographing them while wearing nothing but a speedo. I took her suggestion and did get a reaction, However it was more of a side-splitting laugh than that cute smile I'm seeking. Please ! I need help ! Even my wife and my dogs agree I need Help ! How does one get these little guys to SMILE ?
If you expect less, you will appear to get more.

Kinda' looks like me when the camera is aimed at me and not by me!,, :). Nice pic, though. Very nice. My dog wouldn't pose like that so you have something working for you!
try getting a female (dog) to pose for them
#1 looks like it is grinning. #2 looks like it is waiting for the precise moment to rip your ankles off. Great shots.

:) Look cut out and pasted on black BG - no separation of subject and BG
I have the answer your looking for! I read an article on pet photo's and they said to exercize the animals hard for about 20 minutes before taking the shots. They will look like there smiling and they will pose better also. Another thing is to interview there owners for key work they know like City cat, bird, treat. Be ready for the reaction so you don't miss it. One more thing you can do is use sound like sqeeky toys and whisles. There reaction will only last a couple seconds so shoot in multiple bursts and use A1 servo mode for focus.
