"Surplus"?

KEH
B&H
Adorama

All buy (and sell) photographic equipment. Or you can sell it yourself via eBay or Amazon. You can even list photo equip for sale here on the UHH.

Luckily, you aren't "in hiding" and don't have just one or 2 posts. Because of that, you can try to sell it here.

Most of us are savvy enough that those that won't post where they are from, or who use their first post to try to sell something, that people don't give it a second look.

Best bet, is to try to find a fair price and list it here. Much safer than ebay, and you can get more money than you would get from a reseller.

There are several avenues that you can explore. Local adv. such as Craigs list is good place to start. I buy most my equipment used most local, although I have used KEH and BH as well as Roberts. If you sell to one of the above, remember they will not pay as much as they have their over head and different regulations to go by such repair and warranty and help.. If price is close I would go to one of the above as a buyer for the above reasons. Your local camera club
if you belong to one is an other option. If you have older film equipment, good luck.

KEH, B & H, eBay and UHH are all ways to sell equipment. But, be cautious with Craig's List and eBay. If you are savvy, they are fine. Lots of very clever scammers lurking. Good luck with the sale.

May I suggest the next time you start a thread use a title which is a little more descriptive? A title like "Photography Equipment" is not very informative on a photography site. Something like the contents of your post "Where can I sell surplus cameras?" would have been a more useful title.

I use ebay because it's gone in a week. Do a search for what you want to sell and click on "Sold items" down the left column. That will show you how much people actually paid.

I sell everything on Craigslist. If you price it right it will sell immediately.

Warning on Craig's List or any similar public advertising. Make sure you meet any potential buyers at a public place such as Starbucks, etc. Lots of lowlifes out there whose only intent is to meet and grab and run!

I've sold several cameras and lenses here on UHH. Most sold quite quickly and I never have had a problem with any of the members I dealt with.

I've never sold anything on ebay although they do offer a selling service where they sell it for you.

I am in the process of selling my Canon gear and wondering if most people use Pay Pal for payment here on the HOG? Will have a couple of higher end things and just wanting to be cautious as there has to be trust between both parties. Does the shipper ship before payment, or does the payer send money first....How do most people handle this? Thanks for advice in advance.....

I ended up selling a lens to a fellow Hogger and used PayPal. Both seller and buyer must have an account. Seller creates a listing. Buyer deposits money into your account for item being sold and you receive a notification of such, then you ship the item to them. PayPal does extract their fee for handling the transaction and I think this is something around 3-5% of the selling price, but honestly do not remember the exact amount. If you call them they can advise you on it. Pretty simple process. Good luck with your sales!

My sales to Hog members were to persons who had been members for a while, as I recall. I sold a T3i with 2 lenses and a 70D, as well as several other lenses. I simply told the buyers that I would send them the UPS tracking number after I shipped it and they could mail out a check or money order at that time. They all did. In fact, MTShooter mailed a check before I got a chance to send the camera! I consider the long time members of the Hog to be quite reliable. Of course, all this depends on your financial situation. Luckily, I can afford to gamble to an extent. Not everyone can.
