Comparing Lens Distortion when mounted on a FF vs when on CF

Too many hits on this subject in search to parse so I though I'd see if one of you can point me to a discussion of this.

If I mount a 24mm on a FF and take a close up of a face, we all know that the result can be a distorted face. Now if I mount this same lens on a CF body, will I not get the same distortion even though the field of view is narrower on the CF?

NO - if you back up to have the same FOV

YES - if you stay at the same distance and accept the narrower FOV.

With the same lens on the crop body you will get less distortion because you will have to move back to get identical framing.
The lens does not do the distortion, it's the subject distance that does it.
The compression effect you get from using a long tele is the same thing.
"compression" is caused by distance, not by the lens directly.

Thanks. That makes sense.

Yes, distortion is related to the distance to the subject. It is the same if you shoot with a long tele, things seems compressed, then if you shoot the same image with a normal lens and then crop so you see the same field of view, you will see exactly the same compression as in the shot with the long tele.
