Rosetta Nebula

This is a very sloppy view but the best I could do under windy weather and no Autoguiding possible. It really needs the F/R.
Stars are not round, shot with the Nikon D600 @ 2400mm, no Focal Reducer, 320 sec f/10, ISO 400.
It was just a test shot too see what was going on in the View.
Some processing in Lightroom and Topaz DeNoise. For what it's worth here it is.

Very nice Craig.
I haven't even tried this one yet.
I was so disappointed with my attempt at the swan I have been playing it safe. As it gets warmer I hope to get braver.
Keep them coming.

Thank you Jim I finally got clear skies but it came with the dreaded Santa Ana winds. The Moon is really spectacular in the new 9.25" scope. It has a lot more definition than the 8". I need to get some shots of the Moon soon.

It would be nice to see the smaller craters that are in the larger craters. As Nike says, "Just Do It!"

Looks like a good start. You are getting the color and it looks great.

OK now you are forcing me to get setup tonight or tomorrow and shoot some craters in craters.
That sounds like a lot of fun. I'll use my 17mm eyepiece, for eyepiece projection.

Thank you Jim H, I finally got really close on my Collimation, 1 small tweak and I think I'm there. Photos really tell the truth.

I think so too. There was no indication of a collimation problem in that image. This looked more like a tracking issue.

Yes to the tracking problem it was so windy my Autoguider when nuts trying to keep up. Do you know of settings in PHD for this problem??? The wind helped make the stars elongated too.

I haven't learned PHD yet. I have been playing with the Atik, so it has been waiting.

That is very nice, Craig. Imagine when you do get your guiding. :-o  I know you will get everything ironed out, clear skies, and calm winds. Then Look Out, Mama! :-D

I'm not sure of any settings for the Santa Anas. Other than my settings are hunkered down in a nice spot with block walls and vegetation on the main wall that makes it really tall. The winds are blocked and go over my little spot in the Universe. ;)

I do run fairly conservative settings. I believe that baby steps have helped my viewing by making smaller corrections. That way the mount doesn't get big jumps shoved at it.
Even when I use the Guiding Assistant in the Tools Menu, I will usually get back to my 30-50< in RA and Dec. And the guiding assistant generally makes adjustments to the Min-Mo with regards to the RA/Dec current settings.
I spent a couple of days grooming my mount, and both computers with the aid of the PHD Basics videos. I still credit those as having got me on track. Then a little more of trial and error, which is still ongoing at times.

One oddity I have found with PHD is it sometimes gets weird and won't hold a track. If it is in any way showing noticeable drift, it is off. Drift that takes place over hours is not that big a deal. But if it can be readily seen in minutes, it needs attention.
When that happens, I found that shutting down PHD, then restarting it, and giving it time to do it's guiding set up, straightens it out really good. And at times when a major move has been done, or a meridian flip, I've gone so far as to do a total re-do of Alignment & PHD. (I did that the other night going from The Flame Nebula, to The Flaming Star Nebula)
(I've gotten pretty fast at doing a 2+4 alignment, and doing a "Hard Boot" of PHD)
To me, it is a fresh start for a new target.

To reset the Calibration: After you hit the Camera Connect and the Arrow symbols. Hit Shift Key and the Bullseye Symbol at the same time and it will do the Calibration all over. That way you don't have to turn if off and on again.
