I recently posted info on a TC. I learned enough to ask a second question-that being a recommendation for an everyday lens for a D7100 that can be used with a TC and recommendation on which TC should be paired with the lens. Again, thanks in advance, Bill

The everyday lens I use most on my camera is a 50mm. If you are asking about which lens has a wide range of focal lengths that is compatible with Teleconverters, here is a link that lists the different Nikon lenses and which TCs they are compatible with.

Unfortunately many lenses aren't listed. One is left to assume that if it isn't listed, it isn't compatible

That's what I think, not compatible.

Thanks, I'll investigate. I've been using the Nikkor 18-200

Unfortunately that lens is not TC compatible, which is what the OP is looking for.

That is why I'm looking for a recommendation other than the one I'm using. I didn't know a TC was not an option.

what are you photographing? for long range the 300mm is a great lens that will work well with a converter. you may need to manually focus with the 2x converter, but should work fine with 1.4 or 1.7. for shorter ranges the micro 105mm is also an excellent lens. I think if you want a zoom lens, the only one that will work is the ??x200mm, you will have to check with the Nikon compatibility chart to see which one it is, as I do not have the lens and cannot remember what the lower number is. if you opt for the micro 105, it is also a great portrait lens and an excellent macro lens if you want to explore something new.

Absolutely. The important thing is to know before you "buy and try." The first is a waste of money; the second may render your lens inoperable.

I know the first from experience: I saw a used 1.4x at a great price, bought it, intending to use it on a Nikkor zoom. Incompatible-- now I knew enough not to force it--and I have used it with my 105, but not to attain the reach I intended.

Decided I needed a better lens. Minimal $$ spent on a lens when I didn't understand "you get what you pay for"--I know better now.

An 18-140 would be a good 'every day' choice. If you want to maximize the DX lenses from Nikon, find a good used copy of the Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 DX. Every image I've seen from this sense has been a double-take to look again.

Everyday lens that can be used with a TC? Basically, primes can be used with TC's. I recommend the 28-300 as the best all round walk around lens. It's an fx lens but works great with a D7100. I use it on a D7000.
