An interview with drdave1982,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
By profession, I am a Pediatric Dentist in Mt. Airy, MD. My first digital camera was a DSLR in 1999 and I took a lot of macro clinical dental pics. Then, I wanted one for personal use and I've been hooked ever since.

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Never received pro training, just lots of books and started learning Photoshop

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
A stand out photo always makes you want to ask "How did you ever get that shot?"

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
This pic was shot with a Nikon D7000 just on auto setting because it was snowing at the time, I was in my car and I leaned the camera out the window and shot it. Did it fast because I didn't want snow to get on the lens.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
I use Photoshop CS6 and use camera RAW. I am a total beginner at Photoshop.

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
Oddly enough, my inspirational photographer is Brandon who shoots "Humans Of New York" HONY He gets incredible pics of people, and he inspired me to shoot almost every day . . . Facebook allows me to post my "DrDave's Pic of the Day" for my friends on Facebook ... not so much people pics but nature pics are my favorite for me to shoot.

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
Would not change a thing

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
I wish I knew how to post processing because I literally know very little about it. The pic I shot of the Twin Arch Bridge is not processed a lot, just a little Levels and I cloned out a few yellow traffic signs on the road.

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
My underwater housing for my Canon S120 . . .I take it snorkeling and diving.

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
My favorite lens is my 70-200mm tele zoom because of the versatility.

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
I shoot almost all natural light, so I don't use lighting.

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
My first love is dentistry . . . especially working with kids. But the best part is that I am nearing retirement, so I'll have a lot more time for photography.

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
My most crazy photo shoot was a night dive in Key Largo . . . and a very close encounter with a 5 foot long green sea turtle . .

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Just on Facebook . . . I try to post my best pics and I have a lot of pics on the walls of my dental office.

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
Shoot every day if you can and always take your camera (any kind) with you wherever you go.
thanks for asking
David Hasson
