Hello UHH members. I have been a silent member for a while and decided to become an active member. Will post photos in the future. We are planning a trip to San Fransisco and Monterey this June, (never been there before) and am looking for suggestions of best places for taking pictures. We will be staying by Fishermans Warf for 2 days and Monterey for 2 days. So much to do so little time.
Photo OPs are wildly abundant in the SF and Monterey coast areas, just have plenty of memory cards with you as you will be busy!
The trip out to Alcatraz is fun, and lots of photo ops. Not onlly the prison, but also looking back at the city. And of course the normal shots of the streetcars and other atrractions everyone else likes.
I live neer Monterey and the coast line around this part of California is great most of it is very rocky I take a lot of shots of it
The Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio, the sea lions at Pier 39,the Mission District, South Beach, Haight Ashbury, The Academy of Science, The Conservatory in Golden Gate Park, Grizzly Peak Park just out of Berkley, Those are in or very near SF. I don't know much about Monterey except for the Natural Bridges State Park and that is a great photo op. Then there are the coastal Redwoods and just way more than you could see in 4 days. Take a bunch of memory or a laptop to download onto. Have a great time.
I was born and raised in SF. So many photo ops there. Go out to Aquatic Park there's a cable car turn-around there for shots of the cars. There's Chinatown for neat architecture. Try going to a Giants ball game if they're in town. If you go across the Golden Gate Bridge, there is the Marin Headlands and further north is the Point Reyes National Sea Shore. Can go on and on and....
Welcome to UHH. California is on my list of places to go see.
Don't forget Lombard St. Street performers are good and the art work on the streets make a nice shot.
And by all means get a shot of someone on Al Capone's Pot in his cell.
and don't forget to visit Sequoias National Park

I took that trip once at night. Nighttime really set the mood at the prison.

What about Coit Tower? Don't forget that in SF. Monterrey is beautiful. There's also the Aquarium that no one mentioned. And the drives getting to and from Sf to Monterrey...great. A wide angle lens would be handy.
I think there's a famous golf course along the way, although it may be further south (Pebble Beach?) that's right next to the ocean. It's been a bit over 20 years since I've been there so I don't exactly remember everything...sorry. In the area where the golf course is, I believe there's a part of the ocean that experiences 2 bodies of water meeting and is quite rough and visible. I recall an island you can see where there are seals and black squirrels in that area.
As someone mentioned, the Redwood Forest is an awesome sight to the north of SF, and if you can get to Carmel, say hello to Clint for me.
Only 2 days is not going to give you much time to do all this but, have fun and shoot away.
I'm sure someone will do a fact check on what I've said above.

yes! they're all up and down Embarcadero
... and in front of Alioto's Restaurant, check out the trash bin decorated as foliage. 8-)You gotta get reallly close to appreciate the work though....
Twin Peaks - a site overlooked by many but with some fantastic views of the city on all directions (on a clear day)
go to the hyiatt regency and use the out side elevator from the top you have a great panorama of the city
