Has anyone read "The Nikon Autofocus System: Mastering Focus for Sharp Images Every Time", by Mike Hagen? If so, I'd like your opinion on it.

Maybe someone will chime in,but in the meantime I did not find a lot of reviews on that pricey book. The subject has been covered by many and you can find quite a bit on You-tube. I don't believe that there are any big secrets.

Check out this one and others. Often you can do a search that is model specific for many tutorials/clips.

I agree with Dave. There are no secrets. If fact, rather than buying another book, why not read the one that came with the camera. It has all the 'facts' about the system. If you read it first, a few videos will show you all those 'facts' in action.

I just got that book from Rocky Nook. I bought the bundle with the ebook download and printed book. I think it's excellent. The chapter - Field Techniques, Methods, and Tips is great. They'll have recommended settings for photographing say a basketball game and then discuss techniques. For some reason they forgot to send my printed books initially but after an email they put in the order again and I got them.

I also got "The Digital Zone System Taking Control from Capture to Print" at the same time.

I don't think of $28 as pricey, but it's all relative, I guess. I love YouTube, and enjoy videos more than reading sometimes. But there are other times I get more out of having text to highlight and tab for reference.

EDIT: Thanks for the link. I had actually seen that video before. Well done. A little quick at times, or maybe I'm a little slow at times.

I have read the manual. And while they provide a good foundation, I've learned a good bit more from both YouTube and supplementary books. I find that manuals are often written presumptuously, and I often do not grasp the manufacturer's "explanations".

Thanks for the input. I would probably benefit from the second book as well.

If you want an answer, I would check amazon feedback if you want to buy the book. http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Autofocus-System-Mastering-Images/dp/1937538788/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455065328&sr=8-1&keywords=The+Nikon+Autofocus+System%3A+Mastering+Focus+for+Sharp+Images+Every+Time

I have the book and like it very much. I like to read someone else's thoughts on a subject and then incorporate what I need to my situation. It also cuts down on time learning a subject.

Here's a link to the site CO mentioned. The paper book and the eBook are very close in price. I don't like paying so much for an eBook because the cost of production is virtually zero - no paper, no printing, no shipping.
