Any one using this camera and can comment on it? I have a Sony A65 for my primary but think I would like to have a second camera for back up. We do a lot of traveling and think this might be convenient to use, but I am concerned about the quality of photos here.

Only thing that would concern me was no EVF....Pocket camera how about a G15 or 16 or what you cold find on canon refurbished....had a G15 and its build and IQ quality were excellent.

If you like to take photo's of distant objects and have a steady hand, the photo's should come out decent.

I have an SX50 as a second camera. It does remarkably well for having such a small sensor. If you wish, I can post a test shot taken with maximum zoom. It did require some post processing to sharpen it some.

I would love to see that! Are you shooting this as primary or secondary?

Check out my portfolios (the blue links at the bottom signature line)...all using a Sony HX300 (50x) Superzoom Bridge camera. Of course, these are all processed, but the camera gave me excellent images to work with. I then used Photoshop Elements and
Topaz products to do my post processing. Like a lot of small size sensors, it does well in good light but poor in poor light. Good luck with your search.

Whew! Those are rather convincing. The turtle and the owl really got my attention. Thanks for posting those wonderful images.

I have an old Canon SX10IS, as long as I stay out of the 'digital zoom' stuff, it does just fine as a backup. I often have to replace the batteries in the unit....it doesn't get a whole lot of 'out-of-the-bag-time'.

I actually took this in 2009 from a 'hide'....almost no cropping done.

Another thing to consider, if you like to travel light, look at the advanced point & shoot cameras like the Canon G-16 or Nikon P-7800 as a backup. The SX 530 is probably bigger than your Sony A-65.

G16 sounds as if it would be a good choice. Thanks to all of you for your gracious input.

I replied yesterday and offered to post an image taken at full telephoto 1200mm equivalent. It was a test shot and I had lost it so I had to hunt.
This is not at original resolution and it does have the advantage of post processing. While I am at it, I'll post another, a close-up that is at full resolution if UHH will let me.

This is my second camera. I have a Canon T3i, which presently needs to be taken to have the sensor cleaned so at least for now this is my primary camera.

How far away were you in the first shot? Sharp focus on both.

I have looked at your images and they are great. My facebook friend is looking for a camera to take on vacation so I forwarded your link. I also have a HX300....have been using the camera since 2014 and it has given me some amazingly good images. Find that the HX3000.HX400 and to throw in a Pana the FZ200 have all been a pleasure to use. I did suggest the G16 or 15 for size and as a second camera would be awesome.. Lets all have an awesome day...Best wishes from cold Florida

There was a person on this site a couple days ago who took an exotic bird stealing fsh in his pond using a Canon SX50. Images were great. Someone on this thread before me also recommended this camera. It has a horseshoe for a flash. Please be advised this camera has been replaced with the Canon SX60. Check reviews.

Thank you Kindly Mr. Seagull, yes all those cameras you've mention are great cameras. Sometimes it just a matter of personal choice. And thanks also for passing along the link...I'm much obliged. Best wishes back from cold, snow covered Nashville.
