Hey Hogs - are any of you campers in Texas? We just bought our first RV and we are looking for nice parks to go to. We are finding it hard to find good parks because our camper is 41 feet long, too long for some campgrounds. Any ideas would be be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time !!!

Tommi If you really want to get away and some where peaceful, I suggest you checkout Caprock Canyons State park in Quitaque. Early or late spring is best. They have a large herd of Buffalo that have free range at the park. And the scenery is something else. The place is huge and Pala duro Canyons is just to the west.

Ince Lake by Waco and Austin, Bandara State park, Gods country.
Go computer for KOA Texas
Tyler State Park is very nice and has a great mountain bike and hiking trail as well as a lake with canoeing and such.

http://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/caprock-canyonsOMG this place looks amazing !!! Thank You so much for the tip. In the camper magazines the only campgrounds with ads are the ones that pay the most - but they end up just being glorified parking lots. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again

My favorite place is Palo Duro Canyon in the panhandle area. From June to August they have a play/musical called Texas. It is about the history of Texas. Beautiful place and GREAT play.

If you really want to see another side of Texas, visit Big Bend National Park. It does have a trailer park which could handle your trailer. This is the time of year to go, because in April, it will be 103 on the desert floor. I hope you have A/C. On your way down, go trough Marfa and stop at the Hotel Paisano for the architecture and its great restaurant. You don't have to spend big bucks, they have perhaps the best burger I've ever had. The Hotel Paisano, btw, is where Liz, Rock Hudson, James Dean and the rest of the cast recuperated after a long day of filming Giant. I wouldn't suggest doing the same, the mattresses are terrible!!!
While in Marfa, if there at night, be sure to look for the famous Marfa lights. Also, don't miss Prada Marfa. No, it's not a store....it's a permanently installed sculpture. Somebody thought it would be funny out in the middle of nowhere. Put your best duds on and take your picture in front of the Prada Marfa.
OMG these are fantastic ideas !!! THANKS everyone !! This gives a great list to get us started on our adventures!! Hotel Paisano -- awesome tip !!!

This looks great - it is a little closer than the others. We are in Corpus - so everything is super far.
