Windows 10 is probably the best Windows OS ever. I started with computers before the IBM PC and DOS or Windows existed. Most of the bad reports are the result of user errors or unrealistic expectations. There will always be some problems to address or things to learn about, but there is no good reason to fear Windows 10.

High points for Windows have included Windows 3.1, Windows 98 SE2, Windows XP, Windows 7, and now Windows 10. Most of the rest can be called shelfware.

No need to worry, but there are things to deal with, and it is not of course perfect. I have had no application problems. A couple of device driver things to navigate on very old equipment, and one issue with installation related to Nero software, but that was a Nero problem and I was able to resolve it. I'm running software from the mid 1990's onwards without problems, and although I have Adobe CC for LR and PS, I have much older Adobe SW that runs with out problems (CS3 and Acrobat 8).

Good luck

No, they are a result of experts discovering all kinds of hooks Microsoft put in to help themselves to info about your system.

Nothing to fear as long as you don't mind Microsoft's helping themselves to your info.

Business news feeds suggest there are now 200 million users of Windows 10. There are a few thousand online that insist there are boobie traps, loopholes, spies and various fatal flaws.

That makes about .0001 percent that will remain on a campaign to prove Microsoft is incompetent.

They are easily unhooked. I agree with your sentiments, but not your position. You have to choose Windows or not to do Windows.

Apple and Google are no different in this regard. Facebook doesn't offer an OS and is even more insidious in my opinion.

We live in the modern world, as Scott McNealy said a long time ago. You have no privacy, get over it!

I choose not to get over it. I don't post vacation pictures on Facebook so that robbers will know that I'm not home. I seldom use Google, and I don't use Apple. My business goes to the lowest bidder, the one who steals the least from me. As things look currently, my next computer will be running Linux.

You may choose to give away your (valuable) info if you want to.

No, I'm like you in that regard. But, I deal with it. I don't try to fight what I can't change. I can however find ways to oppose it.

My wife's comment is that this would be highly discussed on the evening news if it were done by the government. I wouldn't mind this if they were more up-front about it and had a guaranteed-to-work one-switch way of turning off their monitoring.
The ironic thing is that right now I am one of their best customers - currently I have a Windows desktop computer, a Microsoft Surface (tablet), and a Windows Cell-phone.

Just turn off the fifty two default settings relating to your privacy and you will be fine.

I absolutely agree with you. The only Windows versions that I truly had problems with were M.E. and Vista. Win10 is "lighter" and (seems to me) faster the 8 or 8.1

You should not have issues with LR 5.7 or PS running in a Windows 10 environment.

Windows 10 is by far the most stable, resource efficient Microsoft OS thus far. Most of the issues folks experience relate to third party drivers that have not been certified which is not the fault of the OS. Luckily Microsoft has accommodated this issue for several OS generations by allowing one to run drivers in compatibility mode which solves about 95% of third party device issues.

The other 5% of third party devices are typically old and well past end of life and not compatible with the 64 bit OS. Can assure you Apple OS's have exactly the same issue with incompatibility with old devices.

Lots of folks complain about the Metro UI. Guess what, it can be turned off.

You will not likely have any problems. Before installing download the latest drivers for every device you have and place the drivers on a thumb drive. Once Windows 10 installs look at the device manager and address any device that has a yellow triangle or red "X" next to it, i.e., update the driver or run the driver in compatibility mode for the last OS version the device worked under.

In general Windows 10 installs without an issues. I've performed almost 300 in place upgrades to Windows 10 since the public release and have to say the experience has been the smoothest roll out of a MS OS I've encountered since Windows 3.1.

First of all on the privacy issue, one must make the determination that one is a worthy target for the so called "hackers".

We owe the decimation of middle imcome America to the politicians we vote (voted) into office. If we can't even properly do that, how can we expect to retain privacy.

I'd spit on what one ID thief could do with my identity.

We need not fear Microsoft and the best operating system they have offered in two decades, for our privacy.

The issues and the switches to turn off and on, for our privacy, have been well documented since the OS came out 7 months ago.

I have been using Windows 10 since March of 2015 on the Insicer program.

I am fascinated by the people who run for the hills (MAC and UNIX) and pay more or get less efficiency, so they can remain ambivalent about their safety and security.

Have done well over 20 installs (clean) and upgrades, since starting to use Windows 10 exclusively almost a year ago.

NO issues, and considerable improvement in performance and stability.

I will go along with the person who said that the majority of the limited number of people having problems did not follow the well placed instructions on how to prepare for the new system. I see it over and over, because I have been making my living for the last 25 years on PC's and Windows Operating Systems.

It's been a real interesting ride, and it smoothed out considerably with Windows 10. Have been teaching Windows 10 demo classes, and will start Windows 10 operating classes next month at the Community College in our area.

Windows 10 has been near flawless in my experience for a year now, and I look forward for it to continue to be so.

There are more support documents and web pages for improving Windows 10, on the internet, than I have seen on any previous Windows version, including XP and 7 than ever.

Microsoft is right in the thick of that support.

I too, started with DOS both on an Apple II and IBM Dos. I also had an Apple III, a Lisa and all of the versions of Windows. So far, Windows 10 seems to be the best of the bunch. (I have managed networks with Apple Macs on it with Microsoft and Unix and had nothing but troubles with Macs). I, so far, think that the Windows 10 OS is the best of Microsoft's builds and is better than the current Apple OS's. However, I still use Unix servers for all of my web applications and for my server storage.
