Try Googling for meetup groups in your area.

I met up with a photo club that was starting here in SC a few years ago. I am strictly an amateur who likes taking photos of a variety of subjects, and was hoping there'd be guys at my level who would share trips and experiences with each other.
It turned out that the majority of the people who attended were professionals of some sort, and they seemed to look at each other as competition and were hesitant about sharing much, if anything.
That club struggled for about a year and folded as far as I know.
Sorry, but I just wanted to maybe give you a 'heads up'.
Good luck, and maybe let us know how it goes with that.

Meetup groups have become really popular. I found this one in Cincinnati. Often, with meetup groups, you will see the statement "Content of this Meetup Group is only visible to members". Sometimes it takes a day or two to be approved by the organizer. They'll send you an email that you've been approved. After that you can RSVP for events.

Hi all! I organize the NY Photo Safari Meetup group here in the NYC metro area: <http://www.meetup.com/NYPhotoSafari/ > and I suggest you just go to www.meetup.com and do a local search there: <http://www.meetup.com/find/photography/?allMeetups=false&radius=50&userFreeform=Cincinnati%2C+Ohio%2C+USA&mcId=c45201&change=yes&sort=recommended&eventFilter=mysugg > I found 13 groups with many different interests. No law against joining more than one! There's also the Photographic Society of America with their list of member clubs: <https://www.psa-photo.org/index.php?n-america-members#ohiovalley > Some camera clubs, not listed, choose not joining PSA because it is not in their budget or they wish to go their own way.

Another hogger is ronichas, a friend who runs her own group in central Long Island, NY <http://www.meetup.com/LI-Photographers/ > Check out her group for top notch shoots and great people.

A hogger mentioned a club in SC that consisted of mostly pros and they seemed to be tight-lipped and existed for only a year. I too would walk away from such an unwelcoming group.

There are a number of "Pro" groups such as the Dutchess Regional Professional Photographers, a group I belong in the Hudson River Valley area that meets monthly in Fishkill: <http://drpp-ny.org/ > They are professionally oriented but they do welcome non-pros or pros-to-be. The topics discussed are similar to those of other clubs but slanted toward the pro. The group also hold day long seminars usually with 3 topics, lunch with socializing and a competition.

There's a wealth of photo activities especially if you're in or near a metropolitan area. Inquire with your interests at colleges, museums, fraternal societies, Sierra Club, zoos, online forums such as this one, Yahoo groups, DP Review forums, Craigslist photo forum or a free ad under "Activities" such as the one Park West Camera Club does weekly: <http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/act/5405826326.html >

Googling cinncinnati camera clubs yields several clubs. Find out where & when they meet and just show up to sit in on a meeting. That should give you an idea of whether you want to join or not.

There are several photo clubs in the Cincinnati area. Just across the river in Kentucky there is the TriState Camera Club. I have never been to any of their meetings, but I have judged their end of the year competition. They have some very competent photographers amongst their ranks. There is also Cincinnati Camera Club. This club seems heavily focused on portrait photography. They even have their own studio that members are able to use. There is a meet up group The Greater Cincinnati Photographers Club. They seem very active. They all have websites that you can look up.

I belong to the Photography Club of Greater Cincinnati. We are a smaller group, but we put heavy focus on teaching new skills and helping people do better photography. Each meeting consists of an image competition and a program. My photography has improved incredibly through my time with the club, and I highly recommend being in one.

We meet the first and third Monday of the month from 7:30-9:00. We would love to have you come and check us out. We meet at the Friendship United Methodist Church, 1025 Springfield Pike, Wyoming, Ohio 45215. Our website is http://www.cincyphotoclub.com . Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions about the club.

I belong to a few clubs in the area. You can join them via meetup. There is the Cincinnati Camera and Photo Club. There are monthly meetings in Lawrenceburg (with outings when the weather warms up) plus seminars-usually held in WestChester library. There is the Greater Cinci Camera Club...most meetings are in N Kentucky. There is the Ohio Valley Camera Club; monthly meetings at Sorentos and often organize outings, day or weekend trips and exhibitions. Most of the people I have met are super nice and fun to be with...also good photographers so lots to learn.

SteveL: do you know if there is a club for wildlife photography?

None of the clubs that I mentioned are geared specifically towards wildlife photography. In the club that I belong to, though, there are some spectacular wildlife photographers. Even though it isn't solely wildlife, I would say that a wildlife photographer can have his work appreciated in the club, and can learn alot from the others.
