Is anybody happy with their camera's built in WiFi system ? I mean is it foolproof, reliable and speedy ? My D7100 with the Nikon adaptor is problematic and I know of another user unhappy with the Pentax version. Is Canon any better ? Fuji, Sony, etc
I imagine each generation gets better, but if I won the lottery would my state-of-the-art camera handle wi-fi well ? Thanks. Kevin

If you want wi fi capable use your cell phone. Cameras are not made to be cell phones.

Works great on my em1. I use it in the field all the time with no issues.

I have two cameras with built in WiFI, one is an Olympus EM10 and the other is a Canon SX 530.
Both of these cameras wifi is very poor at transferring images to my tablet, which is what I require.
Establishing a connection is difficult and drops frequently, using wifi also drains the battery.
I prefer to use EyeFI cards which are fast and reliable and have very small drain on the battery.
The only slightly useful thing about camera wifi is to use it as a remote shutter release control but it is easier to use the timer delay instead.
In my opinion I would not consider buying another camera with a wifi option.

Hi Kevin

I have the Canon 6d and have used the built in wifi on several other occasions and it has worked very well. I have controlled the camera and shots with either an iPad or my old iPhone 4. I routinely while travelling link to the camera and look at my pictures from that day, transferring those I want to send to friends and family immediately and deleting those I don't like.

I would definitely buy another camera with built in wifi given my experience with the 6d.

I used Olympus (EM 1)and Panasonic (GX7) WiFi for camera remote control shooting birds from my deck while I was inside the house, using phone and tablet.

The battery life on the cameras was greatly reduce especially in colder weather. There was a glass patio door or wall between the devices and WiFi drop out frequently. Also the range was limited.

Speed was noticeably slowed but worst of all I could not anticipate when the birds would land because the view was restricted. Had a lot of misses.

For me it was a novel experience but not very practical in this application.

Since I have the wu-1a Nikon adapter for the Nikon D7100 and find that it works about 1/6 of the time and that it does not work well with either my iPad or iPhone, no I have not.

I have the WU-1A as well for my D7100. I was very disappointed with the performance as well. Very slow downloading images with a lot of lag. I have mine attached to my Samsung S5 Android phone. Great idea, but not a great performer.

My D5300's wifi set up easily and worked fine with an Android phone app free from Nikon.

But I haven't used it since.
