My new Canon 70-200 2.8 II

Wow! Just arrived Friday and I quickly ran it through a series of shots on my SL1, 70D, and Sony A7r II (with King adapter) and the shots are extraordinary! Especially surprised by the speed and accuracy of the lens on the Sony where it essentially matched that of the native bodies. So nice to have the option of Canon and Sony bodies with the same lens and not sacrifice quality and speed. Should note, with my Canon 1.4 II extender there is visible CA and a slight loss of sharpness and contrast. That means I keep, for now, the Canon 100-400. Perhaps the Mark IV extender would perform better with the 70-200?

I have that same lens, and it is excellent. It also does a good job with close-ups:

I've never used an extender. I keep the 70-200 on my 6D and my 100-400 L II on my 7DII. I find that makes a very handy combo. The 100-400 L II is as sharp as the 70-200 and will focus even closer. I actually find myself using the 100-400 more then the 70-200, although the 70-200 is better in low light. Either way, it is an excellent lens. Have fun!

I have that lens also. It is great.

I just got the 2x III converter for it, but have not been able to really use it because of hand surgery. I did snap a few and think it is going to work well.

Do you think they would perform better than the Canon Mark IV? My II works quite well, but there is degradation of image that is bothersome to me.

It is possible. ........I have seen a test done on the 70-200 f4 version where the Kenko cheap 4 element version 1.4X out performed the Canon 1.4X III ! - I have lost the link for this - temporarily. I know nothing about the mark IV - even that it exists?

I use the 70 -- 200 lens with the 2X III adapter on the 70D, MKII, and 5DR with excellent results and no noticeable degradation.

Thanks to Crazy and Gary...my experience with 2.0x extenders in the past has not been positive, but I haven't used the III version. Probably will get the III 1.4 or perhaps the Kenko which seems comparable.
