Can someone recommend a good beginners guide to understanding your DSLR camera? A book that covers essentials such as iso, different f stops and aperture. I'm looking for an easy to understand book that will get me familiar with a new camera, and one that explains all of the aforementioned subjects, as well as other areas of importance in photography.
"Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson is a great place to start and its geared for the beginner.

Amazon has books for most cameras.
I'd also advise looking on Amazon. They carry most all of the David Busch and Wiley Publishing camera guides. Find the one for your dSLR. These guides cover camera settings and functions in detail. They explain the different camera menus and how to use them effectively. Most also have chapters devoted to tips and techniques for various photographic subjects (landscapes, travel, etc.). If there is a chain bookseller in your area (Barnes & Noble) they also usually have a number of these guides in stock.

I would think that the booklet that came with the camera would be of help surely it explains all of what it is all about in great detail, how ever the print might be small. But learning all about exposure, ISO ,Aperture, shutter and things to come after you read how your camera works is secondary yes Mr Peterson writes very good books that can teach you how take better composition and such. Just my opinion!

As others have mentioned. "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson and David Busch's Guide for your specific camera. If you use Nikon, Darrell Young, has books for specific cameras. "From Snapshots To Great Shots" has a series of books.

If you have a Nikon. Look to see if Darrell Young has one about your camera. He is affiliated with Nikon I think. And he writes so you can understand it.
