hello photo friends..i am in the market for a heavy duty backdrop stand. a single pole stand that goes at least 10 feet high. I have a cheap one now that even the weight of the back drop will make it fall over..any ideas on where to get a decent stand without breaking the bank? something similar to paul c. buff light stands that I have since they are heavy duty. but they don't have backdrop stands. thanks inadvance for your suggestions and comments.

I don't know what your budget or width you want 12 feet?20feet? Consider this from B&H http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/859487-REG/Impact_Background_System_Kit_12.html

make one yourself out of pvc pipe. not hard to do and you may make to your specs.

You might want to check out Fovitec.com. I've found that their products, while not the highest -- or most expensive -- offer great bang for the buck. Solid quality at a decent price -- plus free shipping. There is currently a 10' heavy duty stand available for $41.95 that I use for my 5x7 collapsible backgrounds. You will need to purchase an additional clip that will hold it which is on $5, or so. So, check it out:

I bought a cheap 12 foot one and when you buy cheap thats what you get cheap!. I put sandbags around the base to hold it in place, works for me until I decide to get a good one.
every photography store has them ...

They are not cheap. But I watch a video lately and the guy pushed, recommended, implored people to you C Type stands. I will be replacing mine in the future after a little more research.

A cheap solution is sandbags. They come in different weights. They are used by video/film crews for all kinds of light stands. Put one on one of the legs of each base. If the pull is in one direction, put the bags on the opposite legs.

In the photo attached the yellow and black stripes perform a second task: high visibility helps keep everyone on the set from tripping over a stand.

Hope this helps > AL

Most likely just another way of saying "one pole" backdrop stand.

Would be challenging to hang a 10' back drop on one support. It is enough just on two.
