Kiara is a model from Cincinnati, OH. She brought some different outfits, and so I will try to post some pictures involving three of them. Take a look and see what you think. Of course, comments, critiques, suggestions, and criticisms are always welcome. Thank you.

Best Regards,
Tom

I would not kick her out of bed for eating crackers! Oh, you mean S what about the photos...

Good job with the lighting and backgrounds!

I personally don't care for her expression in outfit 1A.

JD750,

Hah, I haven't heard that phrase for a long time! :-) I think my Dad is where I heard that one for the first time, many years ago. The Outfit 1 shot was the very first posed shot I had taken of Kiara, and perhaps she wasn't relaxed, but became quite relaxed as the shoot progressed.

In reality, the Outfit 1A shot was just an impromptu/candid shot I had taken just to check out my light set-up and camera settings basically from a greater distance and while she didn't even know I was going to take it. I just thought it was worth posting for the heck of it - a more natural 'pose,' so to speak. Thanks for commenting and looking at the shots.

Best Regards,
Tom

Tom, number 3 is really nice and they are all well done. On number 1 the skin tones on her face seem to be a little off. But I like them all.

Really nice. Not sure about the first two - but the rest are beautiful.

Hey Walt,

Thanks for your email. I think the first and second shots are not as good as the others, especially since she was not relaxed, but became increasingly relaxed as the shoot continued. Maybe the white background in the first one causes some difficulties?

Actually, I re-looked at the posted image and I agree that it is not as good as the others - you're right. It may not be quite as bad as the original on my computer, but is still probably off a bit. Thank you and have a great day.

Best Regards,
Tom

Steve,

I honestly agree with you, and so it seems with the opinions of some others who have made comments. Perhaps it was the 'warm-up' shots for her and for me. As I had mentioned to JD750,

I have found that most models usually become more relaxed and more 'natural' with better poses and resulting shots as the shoot progresses . . . until they may get tired and probably frustrated if the shoot is too long.

Thanks for the comments and taking the time to look and critique. Your opinions are much appreciated.

Best Regards,
Tom

If this is a shoot with multiple photographers, it is understandable why the "not so good" expressions. As a photographer we must connect with our subject "one-on-one" without interruption.

Going through your images, here is my take on each:

1) My favourite even though I am not a fan of bright white, over lit, backgrounds

2) Nothing is good here. I personally would not have shown this one. (We all take good and bad shots . . . one of the secrets of being known as a good photographer is to NEVER show our bad shots.)

3) Here you seem to have connected with the model. Nice expression, nice tilt of the head, nice butterfly lighting which suits her. On the down side, it is rarely a good idea to shoot straight on the body and would have been greatly improved by having her body turned as in the next image.

4) Better body position and good lighting, but the pose is kind of hokey. One should never cut of a hand as you have here as it implies "amputee". Expression is really bad for a "model"

5) Nice light, nice expression . . . bad crop.

6) Not bad light, but her body is turned just a tad too much resulting in her having to look too far off axis and too much white of the eyes showing. This should be cropped in a bit tighter so that her left arm is not cut off at the wrist. General rule is to never cut a limb at a joint.

7) Again, too much white of the eyes. Looks like she was posing for another photographer. Bad crop . . . think rule of thirds.

8) Bad angle . . . bad crop, emphasizing the size of her rear end . . . not very glamorous.

9) Much better all along . . probably one of your better shots.

When you ask for critique it is far better to show only one or two poses. Also you should "save original" so one has a better chance to see the image as it was posted. These thumbnails can be deceiving.

Hope that helps . . .

Just a suggestion, take it for what it's worth, I would have her pull pack her shoulders thus opening her up more and making her look more inviting. It also helps her shoulders look smaller. Just an idea to try.
