I've been to Costa Rica several times and most all the hotels and B&B have free wi-fi. I packed my laptop in my carry-on. Try to make it to Manual Antonio, Poas Volcano, La Paz waterfall gardens, and if you have time Monteverde Rain Forest. If you go to Poas go early in the morning before the clouds roll in. You will want to rent a car to get around. SUV for about $300 a week. Solid Rent-A-CAR near the airport. Watch out for crazy drivers and potholes as the roads are poorly maintained.

Ward5311 sounds like he knows the score in Costa Rica. I would take extra cards too (they're cheap).

I would suggest a google of "tabacon springs" and the mountain village of "SARCHI". the former for a day of relaxation and the latter for C.R. wood crafts.

Sarchi is indeed a town of crafts best known for making ox carts and furniture. Poas and LaPaz are only about 40 km away. It is in the same area as Grecia which has a great old red metal church. There is no shortage of wonderful photo opportunities so YES take multiple cards. If you speak a little Spanish you'll get around easier. Don't take $100 bills as most places will not take them. I take just a little cash for the first 2 days, after that you can use an ATM to access you US bank account. The ATM will dispense colones which is the local currency. I don't buy anything that is marked in dollars as they will be at a higher "gringo" price. Shop for items in colones. Theft is common so don't leave anything visible in your car. If you have a flat theres a good chance there will be a Tico (native people) there to help you. Do not fall for this. He is the one who punctured your tire and will then rob you. Just use common sense and you willl be fine. Ticos are very friendly people. I hope you enjoy "pura vida" (the good life) while you're there.

It's too late for me. I have an iPad 2 and camera connector. BUT, for the sake of simplicity, I'd go with extra cards. And don't use huge capacity cards; use medium capacity cards. You'll lose less if one card goes bad. In other words take 16 32mb cards instead of 2 256mb cards.

Card hold a lot more photos than you think. I have a 4 gb for everyday when I went to download like 40 photos and it only showed a fraction of the card being used..
But then I download mine more often than others do...
