Upgrade Nikon D90 to D7200?

I have had my D90 for a few years now, & as an amateur I have been happy with the results. Can anyone give an opinion on whether it will be worth me laying out $1,000 to upgrade to the D7200?

The 7200 is at least 2 generations newer, faster, with more pixels, wifi etc.... But are the differences enough to justify the cost? All opinions / advice gratefully received.

Hello Chris , I used to have a D 90 and several yrs ago I upgraded to a D7000, best thing I ever did, if you want to enjoy a higher quality photo, go for the D 7200 it is awesome, you will not look back....

Hi Chris,
I upgraded my D90 to a Refurb D7100 for under 500. The 7100 is definitely better in low light, has a faster flash synch speed and the colors seem to Pop just a bit more. I upgraded because my son has been begging for the 90. In the months time I have had it (maybe 300 clicks), not knowing the 7100 very well at this point, I dont think it is 500 better than the 90. Maybe as I get to use it some more I will find something that blows me away. I do like the 7100, I loved the 90, I am sure I will someday have the same feelings for the 7100.
They are still getting 300 plus for a d90 on craigslist which is why I spent a few hundred more more for the upgrade. D90's are still available new which tells me something about how good they are.
From What I have heard the 7200 is a bit better than the 7100 in a year or so there will be a 7300 with a tweak here and a little better this and some of that, just enough to peak some interest so we will part with our cash. If you keep waiting there will always be a newer better one right around the corner.
If the money is not a huge deal, buy it, try it, if it is not everything you dreamed it would be return it and wait for the latest greatest to come out.

Can you elaborate? In what way are the images a higher quality?

I would not worry about generations as long as you are happy with the results and you have been happy with the results. If you have $1000 to spend buy a really nice lens for your D90.

The D7200 is a lot better at high ISO than the D90.

I have a D90 and really like it. A couple years back I considered considered upgrading to a D7100 but other than better low light performance I just didn't see a major advantage. Since all my lenses were FX, I took the plunge and for a few bucks more got a D610 and have never regretted the decision. If I had all DX lenses, my decision would have probably been to not upgrade until something like the D500 came along :)

I have a D90 and D7000. I won't upgrade to a D7100 or D7200 because I think 24 megapixels is excessive for a DX sized sensor - great for full frame. In order the fit more pixels on the sensor, they have to make the pixels smaller. That's not a good thing. They seem to have hit a limit because the D7100 and D7200 are both 24 megapixel cameras. Diffraction becomes evident sooner when stopping down the aperture. This is from the Cambridge in Colour diffraction calculator:

12 megapixel, 1.5x crop factor - diffraction limits extinction resolution = f/10.5
24 megapixel, 1.5x crop factor - diffraction limits extinction resolution = f/7.4

I've rented the D7100 and made comparisons with my D90 and D7000 using the same lenses on all three of the cameras. The D90 and D7000 gave better results.

I think it's more like 6 generations! Go for the 7200, you won't regret it.

Chris,
Take a look at the following website so you can see for yourself what the differences are between these 2 cameras:
http://snapsort.com/compare/Nikon-D7200-vs-Nikon_D90/detailed

Now ask yourself if the many differences the D7200 has are enough to overcome the fondness and satisfaction you have with the D90. There are 24 differences listed so look at each one carefully and decide if you'd really rather have them when you're taking photos.
Finally, to solidify your decision, you can go to this website and rent a D7200 for 4 days at a cost of only $53.00:
http://www.lensrentals.com/rent/nikon/cameras/nikon-d7200
You won't need to rent lenses because you already have them. And 4 days of shooting with the D7200 is ample time for you to know if it would be worth it. If you do decide to upgrade, don't forget about considering a refurbished D7200 to help with cost if that is a consideration.

All opinions considered- as a D7200 (many Nikons in past) owner/user- Lay out the bucks (body only should be gettable for <$1,000 USD). Keep your D90 also. "Upgrade" is a relative term. You will "like" D7200. Has un/in-explorable features / options. Produces excellent images- relatively speaking. OR get a 750/810. Sensor-FX format UHH'ers might be abhorred. Lenses and all.
