Another UWA Photo Shoot - Canon 10 ~ 18mm

When I purchased this lens I only expected to use it for a few occasions when I couldn't fit the subject into the available view of my 'standard' 18 ~ 270mm lens - hence the 'cheap' lens.

Since having it however - I have taken it on several photo shoots where it was left on the camera for the whole shoot.

Using an UWA encourages the photographer to look at subjects differently and new view points.

When visiting familiar places it can be almost like visiting for the first time.

These pictures were taken this week at Buckfast Abbey Devonshire, UK and just received basic processing with LightRoom. IQ obviously is not as good as a pro lens - but at about 1/10 the price makes a more than adequate picture and I think stands up well against any of the other crop sensor UWA lens.

The interior shot of the ceiling through a mirror was a good example as every word can be clearly read even though the shutter speed was 1/8sec hand held.

Sorry - only able to upload one picture as every try has resulted in very poor quality uploads. Windows strikes again!

Cool shot!

I love that lens, and I agree, you see an entirely different world with it - fun and challenging,

Try resizing an image to 800 on the long side and upload without checking store original. Let's see what looks like. (I was recently reading the UHH guidelines about posting :) )

Thanks Linda. Did you see my shoot from my local town?

They all uploaded OK.
I will try a few more today but - for some reason - even at settings which have been OK in the past, the reduced pictures have drastically lost quality.

dah, yep, I asked Homer Simpson and he told me the UWA stands for Ultra Wide Angle.... he said that there was something fisheye about those lenses. Too early to think so I Googled. Thank you for the prompt to self-educate.

Especially when you consider that the Abbey Church was only started in 1907 and built piecemeal, according to the funds available - but at no time did work come to a halt until the whole church was completed, thirty-two years later. The builders - normally only four monks, and never more than six - began with the east end, the sanctuary, transepts and two bays of the nave. At first, while funds were low, all the stone had to be cut and dressed by the monks. In later years, they were able to buy the stone ready-dressed from the quarries. Scaffolding was made from wooden poles, lashed together with ropes and chains. Stone was lifted with manual hoists or block and tackle.
