TMarie's WPC Entry has been selected for the Photo Critique Forum* to find out what could have done to make it better.

Be nice, but be honest as this may help everyone with their craft. Thank you everyone!

Certainly a harder exercise for me this one.

As it is, I feel like maybe a little more contrast, and just a little sharpness would give a little more pleasant look. Maybe bring out a little more from the shadows in the background.

If I would have to do it again, I would probably try to get a shot from a little higher and a little wider angle, or and I would place myself just a little to the right. This way the pavement in front of the bush would be a little more visible and the bush its self would not block the path which seems to be going further.

Easier to comment when you have the picture home on the screen, much harder to find those improvements when you're shooting yourself, as I often do the same.

As compositions go, this is pretty good. With the explanation, it fits the contest category. The overall image is pleasing. The main subject is on the right third facing into the scene. However it lacks the "ooh", "ahh", or "wow" that is needed or helpful in grabbing the attention of the viewer.

I feel the image lacks something. Not knowing the rest of the scene makes it hard to say what might have helped in angles and what to include or not include. I feel that a person sitting on the bench needs to have something to look at. I have no idea if there is something there or not.

The overall image seems to be slightly soft or not quite in focus and the colors could use a little bit of help. Post processing with a bit of vibrance or other color enhancement and maybe a little sharpening might help some.

I voted for this entry because the scene very much spoke of the resolution it represented. However, I just played with it a bit and found that a little brightening, contrast and just a touch of saturation brought it to life without really changing the scene. While I like this very cool somber version, I found a slightly stepped up version to be more cheerful and pleasing.

Thank you for the feedback, this was my first try at a contest. I will take everything to heart, and use it to improve. I would love to see what some of you have done to the photo if you feel like sharing.

The photograph, as presented, looks good for composition, and is ripe for something else to add a central point of interest. When looking at the thumbnail and the downloaded version, the photograph as a whole seems a bit soft. Softness may be corrected in PP.

The angle of the bench, the branch overhanging the bench, and the shrub in the bottom left corner lead the eye to the empty bench. This is where you need something else to add interest.

The bench is old and weathered, it begs for an older couple sitting on the bench and enjoying the company of each other. An older, weathered couple, to complement the bench.

The bench is old and weathered, it begs for a young couple sitting on the bench and enjoying the company of each other. A young couple with their perfect complexions to complement the old bench.

The possibilities are endless with this photograph, only your imagination is the limit.

I think Michael is spot on with his comments. It's a competent picture of a bench, it has good features as Michael pointed out but in no way does it say "Resolutions" to me, the photo needs to speak the words, tell the story. This falls short of that.

Thanks Graham, I appreciate your honesty. I can picture myself sitting there when I look at the photo but maybe that's because I was actually there. Thanks for taking time to give feedback.

Camera on a tripod, use the self timer or a remote and you are in that picture :-)

Hi Graham, a tripod and timer are on my list of purchases to make, along with some pp software, I'll get there :)
