Sunpak PZ5000AF for Nikon Problem

I have a Sunpak PZ5000AF for Nikon. It's compatible with Nikon late film TTL (F5, F100 etc..). Recently it works fine on TTL or manual but on the A mode (which is automatic but using the flash sensor) it at times doesn't fire the flash. I think it's the sync contact but that's not is because the AUTO OK indicator would turn on every time the camera fires the flash or I push the button on the flash. It seems that from time to time the sensor indicates that there is enough light when there is no light.
Anyone has this kind of problem?
