(We're talking
Nikon here for those who aren't familiar with the model names.)
Of course it will work for on-camera work.
From
B&H's site:
" the SB-5000 AF Speedlight is fully compatible with Nikon's i-TTL automatic exposure system found in a majority of their cameras for fast, accurate operation"
The question remains, will the radio transmitter for remote use work with your Nikon D7200.
The flash does have a commander function, so I would assume if you had an SB-5000 on the camera, it could control remote SB-5000's.

If the SB-5000 is the command unit the SB 900, 910, and 800 and others will work with it.

That was billnikon's comment.
I read that the SB-5000 is also backwards compatible- it is supposed to work with the IR systems of the older SB800 and others.
HOW TO SET REMOTE CONTROL OF NIKON D7200 CAMERE WITH NIKON SB 5000 FLASH?
I just ordered an SB-5000 and downloaded the user's manual. Here is how you would select wireless modes. Radio remote control works with the D5, D500, and D850 with the Nikon WR-10 wireless remote controller set .
