Yes quantum efficiency is important.
And has absolutely nothing to do with how those photons are manipulated once captured.

You cannot manipulate what is not captured. The "perfect" sensor would capture 100% of the photons, and it is also possible to calculate the dynamic range (SNR) of such a sensor.

You can make up all the claims you want, but you can't get the noise any lower than a perfect sensor.

So the D4 now has a perfect sensor?

Sensor noise with no input. It can be reduced and has a direct input on iso noise. Quantum values are not the only thing affecting noise the way the engine is not the only part of the car.
Enjoy your D4 and it's perfect sensor. I'm done.
The dog is dead.

It was a peaceful end, all things considered.

Why do you repeatedly try to intentionally distort what has been said?

Nobody even hinted that a D4 sensor is perfect, and in fact the difference between the D4 sensor and an ideal sensor has been shown several times, along with the fact that other sensors are better than the D4. It wasn't hard to read what was said, nor to understand it if learning is part of a discussion.

You know that, and I know that, but I have seen quite a few posters here harrumphing about how 36MP was so superior to 24 MP and now the Nikon Pro flagship has only 20???? Heresy!!!

But they're HUGE pixels. They gather so much light that there's always a black cloud in front of the lens. They warp time so much that you're taking a photo of what will happen two seconds from now. Einstein would have loved it.

To more go with the OP... I would think pixel peepers would be better served with a GigaPan than a new camera body if they do landscapes (no good for sports ;) ). I did a pano group of a sandstone cliff in the fall by hand with my Nikon D300 a few years ago that resulted in an 86 MP image from a 12 MP camera. The best thing about that is that I don't have to deal with file sizes like that unless I especially want them. :)

Side note for DaveO; look for a post titled "Mostly for DaveO regarding Nikon D500"
