Lens Adapters are now a micro world of their own, and they are so useful. They can be mind blowing when you get one and it works properly, with your existing collection of lenses. There are many different kinds of them, from the camera manufacturer's, Metabones, and many after market companies.

Some operate different features, of different lenses, on different camera bodies. The information that comes with them, from their manufacture's seems to be sketchy at best.

I recently purchased a Metabones T Smart Adapter Mark IV, for Canon EF, or Canon EF-S Mount Lens, to Sony E-Mount Camera, from B&H Photo, it is a Metabones model, # MB_EF-E-BT4.

It arrived brand new, in it's sturdy, plastic case, with a tripod mount fastened to it, and an allen wrench, to remove the tripod mount, (and an "L" shaped thick ? Paper clip?) (for what purpose, I have no idea?), and a tiny plastic bag, with two black rubber plugs, to insert into the holes, if you chose to remove the tripod foot, and it's screw's; to fill the two remaining holes, much attention to detail.

And yet, there was NO instruction sheet, or, operating instructions, whatsoever, which came with this, (complex,) electronic/optical device!

THERE IS...more to it, than simply, ...attaching it, to your Sony A6000's, camera Body, and then, simply attaching either, Canon EF, or EF-S Lenses, to this adapter, and then using, the (now adapted,)
Sony A6000 Camera, which has been fitted, with the Canon glass.

This METABONES DEVICE, not only has buttons, to facilitate the removal, of the device from the camera body, and the lens, which has been attached to it...

BUT....this METABONES ADAPTER...also, has two other, Electronic Switching Buttons, on it! Which are, each, of the momentary, push to make contact, type, ...one of these, is small and round, the other is longer and oval, in shape.

These two, electronic switching buttons, are not labelled, in any way.

SO, LIKE, WHAT THE HELL, ARE THEY FOR? WHAT, DO THEY DO?

I tried, to contact Metabones, Tech Support, or, Customer Service, by phone, and found out, that isn't seemingly possible...

I then e-mailed, several, VERY Specific, and detailed questions, into Metabone's Tech Support's, e-mail address, and several hours later, I received, "THE MOST CANNED, E-MAIL RESPONSE, THAT I HAVE EVER RECEIVED, FROM A LARGE COMPANY, REGARDING SUCH AN ISSUE!"

Their "Tech Support," did not, address, any single question, that I had asked them, and only sent me, a nonsensical response, thanking me, for writing to them, and for buying their product...

There was, attached, a single attached link, which opened to a general, broad based, non-model specific, very complex, and not understandable, to the "untrained layman," regarding, all of their ENTIRE LINE, of some very complex Adapters; (which change the aperture of the camera, as well as adapting lenses...), etc.

I did see, that there was talk of, two different "Modes:" A Brown Mode, and a "Green Mode..."

I have no idea, what these are, or, when, or, why, or, how, you would use them, or, whether even, my model, has the ability, to engage them!!???

I DO KNOW, THAT, WHEN I ATTACH THIS ADAPTER, TO MY A6000, I CAN THEN, ATTACH ALL FOUR OF MY CANON LENSES, AND THAT THEY WILL, ALL! AUTO FOCUS! HAPPY DAYS! USING THE SONY'S BACK BUTTON FOCUS...

FYI..These lenses, are:
Canon EF 70-200 mm f/4 L.
Canon EF-S 18-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
Canon EF-S 10-18 mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM
Canon EF 50 mm f/1.8 STM

*** ALL of these lenses, auto meter, auto diaphragm, & auto focus, perfectly, every single time, and I'm just over joyed, about this!

(I was mistaken, when I had first tested this adapter; in my extreme excitement, I'd forgotten, that I had very recently, switched the A6000, to back button focus, and was trying to focus, using the shutter button, and then only the 50 mm f/1.8,
auto focused! I had posted, that only the 50 1.8, worked, with the Adapter, earlier! However, they ALL WORK WITH IT!

DOES, ANY ONE, OUT THERE, HAVE ANY INFORMATION, REGARDING, WHAT THE TWO BUTTONS ARE FOR, ON THE :

Model # MB_EF-E-BT4. Metabones T Smart Adapter 4.

PLEASE ADVISE ME...THANKS VERY MUCH!! Rob.

PS- Also the Green and Brown Modes the Metabones website was refering to?

It doesn't say what the second button is for! Read the entire thing...

THESE ARE SOME OF THE REASONS WHY I CHOOSE TO USE COMMA'S, WHEN I WRITE THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE:
to separate elements in a series,
use a comma and a little conjunction (and, but, for, nor, yet, or, so,) to connect two independent clauses,
to set off introductory elements,
to set off parenthetical elements,
to separate coordinate adjectives,
to set off quoted elements,
to set off phrases that use contrast, to avoid confusion,
and for typographical reasons...
(Comas keep things clear, orderly, and specific.)
Wholesale? No, they are free.

jcboy3, I REALLY DID, Let The Comma's Fly, Wildly, in that post!
I do, personally, love to use commas, when I write, and I have a most definite tendency, to insert one, wherever, they can legitimately, be inserted, in accord with, the "official protocol," of the English Language!

Maybe, my Screen Name, should have been, "MrComma's," instead of, "BigRob," yet, I'm 6'3," at 325 lbs, and, I had not thought of the MrComma's name, when I signed up on UHH!

But, thanks for noticing, my Craft!

Yes, it is written, in English, however, it is not straightforward, operational instructions, regarding how to operate the device! Nor does it come out, and specify, what the two buttons, on the Adapter are used for!...What function, they perform...They do, tell you, that there is a button, which is used, to cause the aperture, to open fully!...Yet, they don't say, which button, this is...OK, we can figure that out on our own? (NO-THE APERTURE IS ALWAYS WIDE OPEN!!!)...There is another button, on the adapter, ...no where, in the manufacturer's data sheet, do they state, what it's purpose is!

Also, they are ambiguous, regarding reading the firmware version, of the adapter. They specify, using a particular model, of a Sony camera. Why do they specify, this one, particular model, of Sony camera? The way that they state it; It is not being done, to serve as an example, of any given camera!....(so..) can any camera, be used? Then, why do they specify, that one, PARTICULAR, Model, of Sony Camera? It does not, make sense!...It is not, logical...It is ambiguous!

They do not, provide detailed, and clear instructions, regarding how to upgrade, the adapter's firmware, if it is required.

My issue, with this adapter, (which is, a very fine device, itself!)
Is that it's documentation, is not included with the device, and for an optical/electronic adapter, selling for $399.95, it should, come with all of it's end user instructions, and paperwork!

Further, the material that Metabones has at their website, is lacking in certain information.

Also, when I sent a detailed question, to Metabones Technical Support, I received back a thank you note, for choosing to purchase their product, and a web link, to their web site, with it's product data sheet!

Product support, is seriously lacking, although much, may not be required, regardless, they should be there, to assist their customers!

The Metabones adapter, Smart Adapter Mark 4, is working fine for me, on my Sony A6000 body, and is, auto focusing, all four, of my Canon lenses: EF 50 1.8 STM, EF 70-200 4 L, EFS 18-135 IS,
EFS 10-18 IS STM !!!

Yet, I'm uncertain regarding the two operational modes of the adapter: Green & Brown, how to enter them, and how many times that I may enter these modes! Prior to Requiring a Firmware Update.

I believe, that the data sheet, is ambiguous, and there is no Tech Support to speak with, regarding clarification of this. The data sheet does speak of these topics, yet it is sketchy and ambiguous, and I have questions about this. I am uncertain, as to which mode, I am actually operating in.

Everything is working, just as it would, with the camera manufacturer's own lens, with all four of the Canon lenses!

I still don't know what the second button is for, and which button is the "Wide Open Button." One button is small and round, the other is long and oval shaped!

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS REGARDING THIS?

I just learned that the Model # MB_EF-E-BT4. Metabones T Smart Adapter 4 only has one button, which is the Wide Open Button; the other raised black rubber piece that I had mistaken for a Button was actually a Port Cover for Firmware Updates...it looked like a Button.

I now realize that if the aperture is wide open, then I'm in the Green mode! The Advanced mode stops down the aperture to it's taking stop.

I like your commas and your using paragraphs to set off topics. It makes your writing readable. This is in contrast to so many folk. I also recommend the use of semi-colons.

After researching Metabones and discovering that all adapters produce a minor lag in AF speed. I purchased a Fotodiox EF-e mount. First one fit extremely tight. After talking to seller, I phoned manufacturer directly and asked for tech support. Had a conversation with the man that runs department. He suggested returning it directly to them and they would try to figure out the problem or replace it. Could not have been nicer. Received a replacement about 10 days later. It fit like a glove and does a great job for a $100 adapter.
