Sigma's compatibility chart shows their extenders will work but no auto focus. And they are not meant to work with any other lenses but those on the chart.

Something like the Kenko Pro 300 line is made to work with a huge number of lens, just as long as their short end is 70 mm and above.

On my Tamron 150-600mm the Kenko Pro 300 only AF & VR on the lower end of the Zoom Range. 300mm and less.

Be patient, learn more about your subject, get closer. Saves money on a tele-converter and your results will be better.

Thank you Bozsik. I like my 6d, but was amazed at the difference with my rebel t2i with so much more reach & it is now acting up so I am thinking of replacing it with the 70d or 7dmk II but worried the latter will be to hard to learn on. I did like the sigma 150/500 on the rebel.

Thank you Cappy, I was afraid the 70d was more for video because they talk so much about that part, I don't do video just shoot photos.

You can, however it may not auto focus due to losing too many stops of light.

Right. It mostly depends on your camera. Some recent cameras will focus down to f8 (e.g. Nikon D800). Most only focus down to f5.6. The latter will not autofocus because even a 1.4 telextender adds a stop and the lens itself is above that.

Generally you can only get by with a 1.4 if want autofocus even on those cameras that focus at f8.

What camera?

Am I correct that is a 1.4 TC?

BTW I found out that although the Sigma TC will work with this lens on a Nikon camera the Nikon TC will not. The Nikon TC has a metal tab that would have to be removed to allow it to work with the Sigma lens. I don't know if the Canon mount might have similar issues.

Thank you for all your input.

For any tele-extender/lens/camera combination it is wise to check compatibility before purchase. In some cases, only an OEM device will work properly, in others several will be ok. Even within a brand, not all extenders will work with all lenses. The comment that these devices are really intended for fixed focal length lenses should be considered. Best of luck. Happy New Year!

Extenders are available. The issue is your lens will go from a 150-500mm f/5-6.3 to a 300-1000mm f10-12.5 (or thereabouts). This is going to be a VERY slow lens. Do you really need a 2x teleconverter on a 500mm lens? Why do you need a teleconverter? You will tradeoff sharpness.

You are welcome. It has taken me many years to come to grips with the patience part of the whole wildlife photography. But it has paid off in the long run.
