Big problem! Having a problem printing photos from the photos app on my iMAC. After selecting the photo to print I just get the color wheel and have to force quit. I can edit and export the picture and print just fine. I've been online with Apple 3 times since Sat they can't figure out what's wrong. Took some information and moving it up the tech ladder. They said it's not the app it's my library. They said it would be Sat before they contact me about it. Has anyone experience this problem? This is making me want to change. Back to Windows again.

Mac will solve it for you! The "library" is a mysterious folder but holds all kinds of fixes...just don't try it yourself. You will learn to love your Mac!!!

You're upset because you have one problem? And you want to switch to Windows to avoid all problems? Guess again. :D

Please let us know how this works out.

That would be a big mistake, in my experience, still using Mac and PC (at work). I had a similar problem with Mac/Canon Pixma Printer attempting to print out of Lightroom. I reloaded the Canon driver and was able to somehow overcome the communication barrier between ap and device. Good luck, keep your Mac!

If everyone jumped ship after one issue, there wouldn't be any Windows users left. Every Windows machine has frozen or BSOD at least once.

The Mac OS builds a large cache of 'behind the scenes' files. If you have added and/or deleted a lot of files over time, this cache gets quite large and can affect the performance of your computer. Periodically, it is good to clean out the cache files. Also, checking that the file directory is accurate is part of this process. There are several programs available to accomplish this safely. I've used Cocktail, an inexpensive, download program that I use.

Because printing involves temporary files, if your drive is getting full, it may affect how well the photo print jobs work. Do you have difficulties printing other documents? If not, the larger size of photos may provide a clue for you.

EVERY OS and computer has issues. Windows has the most! I've had both Macs and PCs in my office since 1986, and have done ten times the real work on the Mac, with a tenth of the problems!

Every few years, I get all my software up to date and tested to be sure it works. Then I make a CLONE or IMAGE of my startup drive. My data is stored externally. So if something burps, I can erase the startup, copy the clone to it, and boogie on

You might try deleting the printer installation and completely reloading the driver software with the latest version.

I understand the frustration but frankly it most likely isn't the machine. Machines only do what they are programmed to do or what software instructs. If a glitch occurred which I found all to often way back when I used a PC, then it can be resolved. Give Apple a chance. If they can't resolve it then I could understand the drama kinda sorta maybe. Until then chill and let Apple do their thing. At least you get support, something I also struggled with getting when using a PC.

Do you shut down and start your Mac every day? If so, you are not letting the system "purge" itself.

Built on a UNIX core, there are programs that run automatically (usually in the dark of night) that clean log files, caches, rotate files, and more. There are also weekly and monthly programs.

If you are comfortable with the command line and know the Unix file system, you can locate these programs and run them manually.

My guess is that you have a permissions problem, or some such oddity that was introduced when you installed some new software, or shut down the computer irregularly.

A good lesson about Macs - install as much ram as you can get into it ;) Let it run 24x7 - there are many clean up routines built into the OS that run at late hours when the machine is not being used that will clear out caches, clean up memory use and work to speed it up.

I run a 27" IMAC myself, it has 24 GB of ram, which I will upgrade to 32 GB shortly and it runs 24x7 unless I am away from home for extended periods.

It runs fast, reliably and smoothly.

If Apple told you your problem is in your "library" I would guess that they are saying you have an issue in your "photos library" and that is what they will be cleaning up, and since you are having issues with a photo that seems to make sense.

Jumping back to Windows because of one small problem is probably not the wisest choice.

Look on the bright side. Every computer operating system - Atari, Commodore, and TI through Windows 10 and Mac OS X - has had problems, and a lot of those problems have been solved because users like you reported a problem and gave the techs time to solve the problem so that nobody else has it. You're one small, but very important, part of the process of computer evolution.

This isn't the first problem and I've had it since Jan 2011.

Don't take this as authoritative but.......when adding a Canon printer to your MAC, be sure you select the IJ driver, not the Bonjour driver. Something like "Canon PIXMA Pro-100 IJ"

I just went through this myself.

My guess is that you've somehow messed up shares for the common unix print server that is the background print server in the Mac OS. Here's what I would do:

I'm assuming that you are the primary user of this Mac and that your personal account is an administrator account.

I'm assuming that the internal or external disk that contains your photos library is connected to your Mac and that your are trying to print from a library that is accessible the OS.

Preliminary: Make sure you are logged in as the administrator for your Mac. First navigate to the "Disk Utility" which you can find in the Launchpad. Launch the Disk Utility. In the left column you'll see a directory of your Disks. Find the disk containing your OS X installation and click on it once. At the top of the utility you'll see an icon for "first aid". Select the first aid option and then select "run"when prompted. Will take a minute or two to repair disk permissions.

1) Shut your Mac completely down and allow about 15 seconds before restarting in order to clear the print server cache.

2) Reboot and make sure you are logged in as the administrator.

3) Navigate to Preferences > Printers & Scanners and launch the printers & scanners utility

4) In the column on the left you'll see installed printers. Right Click on the printer giving you the grief and select "reset printing system"

5) Shut down your computer. Wait 15 seconds and then reboot. Again log in as the administrator.
Now open your web browser. Go to your printer manufacturer's web site to the support center. Locate your printer's support/drivers/software and download the latest driver and or software for your printer. Install both the driver and software if it is available.

6) Navigate back to the Printers and Scanners utility

7) In the left box you'll see + (or add sign) select the add + option

8) Select "add printer or scanner" You'll see a list of printers. Select the printer that has the name/model for yours.
Do not select the "Bonjour" version.

9) Once your printer is shown in the left hand box in the printers and scanners utility, right click on your printer's icon and select it as the default printer.

This should work. If it doesn't I'd begin to suspect a connectivity problem between your Mac and the printer. Cable that is defective or partially pulled out. If you're communicating via WiFi with the printer could be that the printer is no longer communicating with your router. In general if the Mac is having trouble communicating with the printer the printer will appear as a faint shade of gray in the printer and scanners utility.

Do you have a specific reason for doing that? What memory cards do you have now, and what will you get? I have the original two 2's or 4's (not sure which), and I added two 8's. I bet you're going to replace the 4's with 8's.
