a few pics from a bad bunch of pics i found it very difficult to focus in on these there constantly moving there,s 4 of these bird,s settled on the coast near me apparently they travel from russia & iceland to winter in the uk ive done my best with them hope you like.
At least you can keep going back and practicing. I have the same problem trying to pan with moving birds and keeping good focus. Sometimes it works great, other times not so much.

its all about the light and a lot of luck thanks for looking.
Very nice jimmy, and you are doing much better than me!
Thanks for looking mate its all about practice i suppose and the sun coming out its not very often here at the moment gale force wind and rain has me in the house today.
How far away was the owl? If far, then the DOF is relatively small. You may be more consistent with a smaller aperture/slower shutter combo. Also, it is very difficult to focus on a small object in the frame in general. Did you have issues with focus hunting? That could have been helped a bit with the focus limiting on the lens. The busy background makes it more difficult to focus when compared to the homogeneous sky when you can use a wider focus area.

Thanks Tom probably 50yrs away but they move and sway while they fly f5.6 at 400mm on aperture priority.
All are nice, I do like the first three better however the last one was the hardest to shoot because it was flying straight at you! I like photographing owls as my favorite and next are the eagles. have fun and practice while they're there. I do all my birds using a gimbal head but my wife likes shooting freehand. Look forward to more shots. Thanks for sharing and a Happy New Year to you and yours!
