The Lemon Slice

I purchased a 'softbox' desktop studio recently. Today was the first chance to try it out. I wasn't going for a 'wow' photo, just a 'pleasing macro'. Any suggestions with lighting in order to enhance the 'seed'? Thanks for your consideration .

This looks like it could be a lot of fun, especially if you guys finally get a winter there :)

You've visited the true-macro forum before, right? I'm thinking they would be the experts to help with your questions. Some amazing talent there.

I like to think that last winter's snow was a life-time supply but it is almost January so it's about time . Thanks for the suggestion, Linda.

No, I know nothing of macro but feel both images are soft. 2nd appears to have a bit of sensor dust. Image 1 is pleasing enough.

Sorta OK not overly impressive but a good starting point to master something new.

I think #1 without the seed would be an intriguing shot. To be honest, to my eye the seed just looks like a mistake rather than a point of interest or an artistically allowed blemish. The through-lighting is interestingly different and I can see a lot of potential there.

Thanks for all the comments and interest. I'll definitely take up the suggestions and work on a new submission. Like my quote says...it's the lessons that life teaches ... never be afraid to try something new.

It's a good start. If you didn't say it was a lemon slice, I wouldn't have known what it was. The subject should be identifyable to the viewer.

I was thinking about your image, and wonder if you placed something with fine detail on top, like a thin ruler, if it would help you achieve focus! S-

Not always. Sometime the image is all about form and texture.

Maybe, it's jut me, but I like to know what the subject is. If the title is "abstract" the patterns, form, and texture are more important, but here it is Lemon slice. Again in my opinion, I can't "see" a lemon slice here.
