Hi there! Rank noobie here, just got the Nikon P900 a couple of weeks ago and finally got out to take a few shots of the moon. It was a bit cloudy, but the camera seemed to shoot through the clouds just fine. Though, next time, I'll wait for a clear night and see what I can do. Still experimenting with the settings too. All in all, it was fun, and WOW, to see the moon like that in the camera!

Some good shots, indeed! Are you a "noobie" in reference to the P900, or photography, in general. How about a run down on how you compare the P900 to your other(?)camera(s).
Thanks for posting.

I am a complete noobie. Both to the camera and photography. Up til now, most of my photography experience has been with whatever smartphone I had at the time. That said, this camera is a HUGE step up. I've been wanting something more than a 'snapshot' camera for a while now, just haven't got around to it yet. I first heard of this camera when I saw some similar moon pictures on the net and noticed they were taken with just a camera. I knew then, even if my kids had to starve, I just had to have that camera.
I do like the camera, it will take the easy snapshots and all, but I find that the more I use it, the more I want to do with it and I've been studying A LOT to be able to do more. This is MUCH more camera than I am photographer. I expect that as my skills improve I'll begin to see some of the shortcomings of the camera that some others have noted, but for now, almost everything is awesome. The only thing I'd like better is low light conditions. I now know that that is a weakness of the very small sensor size, that very same sensor size which helps make that crazy zoom possible, so, there's a little give and take.
What I DO like:
I like the articulating screen.
I like the crazy zoom.
I like the 'idiot' friendly capabilities to 'just go take a picture'.
I like that it makes me want to learn to take better pictures.
I like that even someone like me can take this camera and within a short time, take some really neat pictures.
I like that I can use filters with this camera and learn how to use them without first spending A LOT of money on an expensive camera and lenses first.
What I don't like:
I wish it had better performance in low light conditions (see small sensor and crazy zoom).
What I'm not sure about:
It'a a big ol' mammy jammy (see crazy zoom lens).
mjames42, Thanks for the information. Seems to me that you have the drive and curiosity to develop into a capable and well versed photographer. Good Shooting,
