I'm looking at buying a new macro lens, i have looked at the sigma 150mm f2.8 EX OS DG Macro Lens -AF
Canon EF Macro lens - 180 mm - F/3.5 - Canon EF
Canon EF - Macro lens - 100 mm - f/2.8 L Macro IS USM

Has anyone used any of the lenses above, i do have the 60mm f2.8 and need an upgrade.

I love the Canon 100mm macro. I have used it without a tripod and very sharp photos. I think you would need a tripod with the 180mm lens due to its size.

Hi wessyfiesta: I don't have the 100 mm "L" series so I can't testify as to it's ability. However I do own the 100 mm 2.8 usm macro and it is a superior, true macro lens. I was able to purchase it for under $400. Here is a great website that explains all of Canon's lenses and breaks them down by quality and use. Very educational and easy to follow, it also touches on non Canon lenses. http://photonotes.org/articles/beginner-faq/lenses.html Hope this helps

I bought the Canon 100mm used on ebay and have been very, very pleased. Sharp pics even when hand held.

I purchased a used, but pristine Nikkor 105-mm macro on eBay. An excellent, used Canon macro lens should be your first search.

I ordered the Sigma 150 macro. I tried it out and it was OK, but sent it back and ordered the Canon 100mmL IS. I love this lens. It does a great job and locks focus really fast. It was definitely worth the difference in price.

My wife got the 180 macro and compared it to the 100 and hands down the 180 is far better as you don't have to get right on your subject leaving room for light to get in.

The Canon EF - Macro lens - 100 mm - f/2.8 L Macro IS USM seems to be highly people. Some have also used it as a portrait lens with good results.

I have owned both of the 100mm Canon macro lenses. I couldn't tell the difference in image quality but the L series has the IS which makes a difference getting a higher percentage of in-focus tack-sharp images. The non IS just takes more patience to get the shot right. I still have the L series lens and it gets the job done.

I have the Canon Macro 100mm non L lens and love it. It does take practice and patience to get the shots but when it is in focus it is tack sharp.
